I recently settled on an underinsured motorist case with John McCabe and Associates. They came highly recommended from Social Media. I’m so glad that I trusted the referral! My case involved an accident with a drunk driver. The crash caused an extreme flare of a rare health condition, that had previously been under control. John helped me take on one of the insurance giants, and mediate a settlement. To say that my medical history is complex, is an understatement. John was very up front about the challenges we faced, navigating with a pre-existing condition. He thoroughly prepped me for my deposition. He also went the extra mile to become quite educated on the rare condition that I deal with. Outside of my immediate medical team, John knows more about it than most of my doctors. I primarily worked with John, Brigitte and Gloria, but occasionally spoke with other staff members. Calls, emails, etc were quickly returned. They made sure that I understood the process, and knew exactly what to expect as the case progressed. This could be especially challenging on days that I wasn’t well, so I truly appreciated the patience and kindness that they combined with their professionalism. In theory, I could have taken on the insurance company myself, and tried to mediate a settlement. They would have steamrolled right over me! John anticipated, addressed and countered the opposing side’s arguments, all in his opening statement. They were left with little room to contest, so quickly moved to settle. It was amazing, and I couldn’t be more thankful to John and his team, for making it happen!

I called, just needing a letter or two written for my case. I was very clear up front that it's a small case. The receptionist had difficulty understanding that. When she finally understood it was a small case, she hung up on me. I definitely wouldn't recommend based on her unprofessional behavior and inability to understand a simple request.

We were in a head-on collision that involved three parties. While we had much mending to do, John and staff took over and gathered all information necessary for the settlement of our claims. John and his staff were very helpful in answering our many questions, explaining the legal issues and suggesting the best course of action. Our cases ended in arbitration and we were very pleased with the results. We heartily recommend John to anyone needing assistance involving an auto accident.

I refer friends, colleagues and realtors to Rebecca frequently for closings. My husband contacted her for assistance with some real estate property paperwork. She was quick to respond, and her attention to detail was reassuring. It was nice to learn that she also can assist with wills and power of attorney.

I worked with Kara to close my first home purchase, and then 10 months later to refinance my mortgage. She is professional, personable, she explains everything to you without making you feel bad about it. She works very well with everyone behind the scenes, and you as the client don't even know how much she gets done for you. I absolutely love working with her! She is professional, available, and makes the process so smooth! I highly recommend her to everyone!

Ms.Hand did a closing for us a couple of years ago and everything went smoothly. We recently had a question about the HUD because we are building a new home in another state and she got right back to us. Would highly recommend.

Recently, Marzella Law Group helped us with a business closing for a business we were purchasing. Carmen and Tayler are a wonderful and professional team. They went above and beyond. But the most important thing to us was their knowledge of the business closing process and their responsiveness. They made a complex and stressful process smooth and understandable. I highly recommend their law firm for your business needs.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Cary, North Carolina?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
