Triangle Smart Divorce is AWFUL! I had been working with them since January until a week ago. They didn’t do anything but take my money and create a whole mess and debacle. I am utterly disappointed and disgusted in the representation I received, and how I was treated whilst working with them. The communication I got from them was the absolute bare minimum, and insufficient. Everything with Julianne started off great, but once my ex finally retained counsel, she changed her tune. I lost trust and confidence in her after she would go days without answering my emails— and when she did, it would only be a 1 sentence reply until I also changed my tune with her. Julianne was always speaking her personal opinions about me, and my situation, which I do not appreciate at all. She became very opinionated and biased after there was opposing counsel. I paid thousands of dollars, only to have her betray me and not communicate with me. I wish I could get my money back. After retaining new counsel, things are already moving in a different direction. I can already see major differences after just a week or so of working with my new attorney. I would never recommend this firm to anyone unless you just have money to waste and do not value communication. I wish I could give them a negative amount of stars.

Julianne guided me through every step of the way in what turned out to be an extremely nasty divorce. She is very direct and likes to get cases resolved. I am not sure that I could have kept my sanity without her help. Thanks Julianne!

Julianne Booth Rothert is truly one of the best lawyers I have ever worked with. She came highly recommended from an acquaintenance and I could not be more pleased with her services. She helped me through a very difficult divorce and financial settlement. She is extremely responsive and always has her clients best interests at heart. It was worth every dime I've spent for the legal advice and the moral support. She's a wife and mother so she can relate to the challenges you face. She understands human beings and the law -- a great combination. Compassion and legal expertise. I recommend her to every person that I met who stated they need a lawyer. The last individual I recommended her to actually receivied a recommendation for Julianne from 2 other individuals as well. This is definitely money well spent -- I urge you to invest in a partnership with Julianne!

As the product of a blended family I have witnessed my own experience and the experience of my wife with her present attorney with a different firm. I can say without hesitation that Julianne was knowledgeable, professional and responsive to my situation. Dealing with ex's is quite emotional and Julianne made a difficult situation quite bearable and fair in the end. Her counsel was spot on. Now if I can only get my current wife to drop her current attorney (friend) and hire Julianne to do her work and let us get on with our lives.

Julianne was recommended to me by a colleague and friend and I could not have asked for anyone better. Going through a separation is difficult enough especially when you have personal deadlines to meet. Her professionalism, expertise and willingness to quickly respond to my questions was incredible. Within the first five minutes of meeting her she had put me at ease and earned my trust. She always had my best interests in mind and made sure I fully understood the ramifications of my decisions as we worked through the process. Julianne, I thank you. I would not be where I am today without you.

Recently, Marzella Law Group helped us with a business closing for a business we were purchasing. Carmen and Tayler are a wonderful and professional team. They went above and beyond. But the most important thing to us was their knowledge of the business closing process and their responsiveness. They made a complex and stressful process smooth and understandable. I highly recommend their law firm for your business needs.

Everyone at this firm has been beyond amazing and patient with us regarding some delays on our side in getting our trust done. In August 2021, we completed and funded (many thanks to Kathy for all of her funding assistance) our trust. It is a wonderful feeling to know that our assets are protected and that everything is in order for our children. My husband and I give our highest recommendation to Carolina Family Estate Planning.

Following my husband's return from the hospital with a diagnosis of Lewy Body Dementia, I found myself in charge of our finances that he so aptly took care of for 42 years. A friend shared his experiences with CFEP with me and I called them the same day. Within six months, under the guidance of CFEP staff I was able to set up a trust insuring that what we had worked so hard for was protected for the rest of our lives and for our children. The staff at CFEP is always very professional and available to answer what might seems the very basic of questions. Since my husband passed last year I continue to rely on CFEP expertise and plan to continue my association with the firm.

I worked with Kara to close my first home purchase, and then 10 months later to refinance my mortgage. She is professional, personable, she explains everything to you without making you feel bad about it. She works very well with everyone behind the scenes, and you as the client don't even know how much she gets done for you. I absolutely love working with her! She is professional, available, and makes the process so smooth! I highly recommend her to everyone!

Ms.Hand did a closing for us a couple of years ago and everything went smoothly. We recently had a question about the HUD because we are building a new home in another state and she got right back to us. Would highly recommend.

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Cary, North Carolina?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
