Paid 3,000 up front for a child custody battle. It was 6,000 total. Natalie was my attorney was cordial and cold all at the same time. They charge $40.00 per email per call. They do allow you to make payments for the balance. Which was $500.00 a month. Once paid the $3,000.00 I never heard from them for about 30 days. They did informed me that they email me but it went to junk because they don’t normally email me. But they allow 30 days to pass and had said nothing. They say they were waiting on me but in 30 days they never followed up to make sure I got the email. The assistant was explaining this while at the same time missing my opportunity to get on the court calendar since I haven’t seen my daughter in a Year and half and asking for another $500.00 dollars payment. I had to do dispute for the funds back because they would not refund me the funds back. That takes 60-90 days. So now my money is tied up until that clears and I still don’t get to see my princess. In short they were second biggest waste of time and money coming close to first to my Ex-wife!

Seems like reviews are everywhere. I read them to try and gain some insight from the voices of the many. Every now again, I even try my hand at writing one. Then there are the moments that it is absolutely necessary to share your experience with others and this is one of those times. While there is not enough time to take you through all the twist and turns that lead us to the doorsteps of the practice of Phillips & McCrea, PLLC and ultimately Mr. Phillips, it proved to be out of the many things that were not going in our favor, the very one thing that did and it made all the difference in our outcome. We have a special needs child and needed help with his disability case after some experiences that we will just describe by saying that we wish they were not a part of our story. If you live long enough you know the road bends and it turns and what becomes certain in this life is that nothing is for certain. But there was a ram in the bush and if you know what that expression means, then you know the importance of the job Mr. Phillips rendered unto us at a professional level that not only is uncommon today; but you could make a strong argument if it even exist. Our experience with Mr. Phillips takes us through multiple years where even we wanted to surrender because we had nothing left in the tank; and I’m not talking about our tank was low, I mean notta, zero, zilch! Yet if not for Mr. Phillips encouragement in the face of what seemed insurmountable, his willingness to be patient and steadfast, and his professional acumen, our path would have been altered in ways we could not explain. If anyone may have any doubts, unanswered questions or any reservations as to whether you have found the right attorney, I would ask that you stop what you are doing immediately and call Mr. Phillips on the phone NOW!!! Not only do we highly recommend him, drop the mic here………. I will end this review by leaving you with a very important question. From personal experience I know how important it is to choose the right attorney to guide you through legal matters that a high level of expertise and sophistication is not only required, but demanded, why would you trust anyone else in such a time as this?

I contacted Mr. Phillips to assist me with my son disability case. My son was originally diagnosed as disabled at the age of 3. When he turned 11 years old the state decided he was no longer disabled. So I reached out to Mr. Phillips and he did everything in his power to help me and my son through this stressful situation. I was so worried that he would lose his disability benefits but with the help of Mr. Phillips he was blessed to continue to receive his benefits. I can not thank him enough for the help. I am so grateful for everything he did. On top of that he took my son case with no fee are money required. This is how you know that he is not in it for the money he is in it for the best interest of the client.

Josh is a native Charlotte man who knows the area and people well. He understood my case well and helped me even though I was not the most rich or fancy client. Josh knows people and it makes him a good lawyer. He is honest, and I do not get a feel like he is trying to make money, but help me. His office is a little outdated and he is old fashioned (uses a fax machine) but he is more experienced and knows the law better than many recent graduates at big firm. I recommend him to anyone in need of a down to earth criminal attorney.

Mr. Kirkley handled my personal injury case. He was very professional and got me results that were beyond my expectations. The entire staff is polite and courteous. They were quick to return my calls and answer all my questions. I would highly recommend Kirkley & Stanley Law Offices to anyone who has an accident. I have referred friends and family to their firm for accidents and traffic related matters.

Excellent lawyer! She did an AMAZIN job on my case.. First thought was public defender does not care enough, I am going to lose. not this lawyer. She was concerned, confident about case and we WON! Even if the case was a guilty verdict, she is still a great lawyer. She knows her stuff and most importantly she cares. Thank you for time and talent Ms. Grill... My family and I are most grateful!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Charlotte, North Carolina?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
