The Sasser Law Firm staff was friendly and helpful, walking me through the entire process and always communicating with me the next step and what to expect. They successfully won my Social Security appeal in court. Charles Sasser was patient with all my questions and worked tirelessly to obtain my favorable settlement with the insurance company which included both back benefits and ongoing support. I would highly recommend him to anyone needing a skilled attorney! Wonderful to work with!

I hired Mac and Heather to handle my ERISA LTD case and they have done a fantastic job with my case. They have worked with me for many years to first maintain my benefits and then ultimately to reach a significant settlement with the insurance company. Their staff (Heather, Jennifer and Doreen) are wonderful and very professional; They always knew exactly what to do and were kind and caring. I was always able to reach them and they always completed documentation professionally and timely and worked very effectively with my doctor’s office. Mac created significant extra value during the negotiations and was able to achieve the very best outcome for me. I am very fortunate that I was able to find and hire this firm to represent me and would highly recommend them to anyone else in need of representation for an ERISA LTD case. I can’t imagine where I’d be without them; I feel so fortunate that they were on my side and can’t say enough good things about them.

I turned to Mac Sasser for help after getting the run-around from the insurance company responsible for my Long Term Disability case. They initially approved my claim and then almost as quickly denied it – something I learned was not uncommon with LTD. I also learned the hard-way that when such insurance is (was) obtained through your employer it falls under ERISA, which in and of itself adds layers to the process and difficulty obtaining a fair outcome. Mac initially took the time to speak with me on the telephone and even followed-up with me a while later when he had not heard back. It was during these calls that I gained a sense of confidence in his ability and more importantly, comfort in his level of conviction in doing the right thing. In the overall scheme of things, my case was not huge for an attorney with Mac’s credentials and experience. That said, at no time did I ever feel Mac and his team were not working on my behalf and towards a positive resolution. It took time, longer than I wanted but Mac and Heather kept me in the loop as to what was taking place and more importantly offering a realistic timeframe for next steps. Ultimately we were successful on several levels thanks to the firm’s efforts. At one point my LTD was reinstated, at least for a period of time, but then the insurance company started their crap all over again. Mac pushed forward and in the end, after having to file, the insurance company finally came to the table with an acceptable settlement offer. I am very thankful to Mac, Heather and team for their time and efforts and highly recommend the Sasser Law Firm.

Josh is a native Charlotte man who knows the area and people well. He understood my case well and helped me even though I was not the most rich or fancy client. Josh knows people and it makes him a good lawyer. He is honest, and I do not get a feel like he is trying to make money, but help me. His office is a little outdated and he is old fashioned (uses a fax machine) but he is more experienced and knows the law better than many recent graduates at big firm. I recommend him to anyone in need of a down to earth criminal attorney.

Mr. Kirkley handled my personal injury case. He was very professional and got me results that were beyond my expectations. The entire staff is polite and courteous. They were quick to return my calls and answer all my questions. I would highly recommend Kirkley & Stanley Law Offices to anyone who has an accident. I have referred friends and family to their firm for accidents and traffic related matters.

Even if the case was a guilty verdict, she is still a great lawyer. She knows her stuff and most importantly she cares. Thank you for time and talent Ms. Grill... My family and I are most grateful!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Charlotte, North Carolina?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
