I cannot recommend Spengler & Agans, PLLC enough, and especially Justin Agans, for their exceptional service and unwavering commitment to their clients. As a first-time business owner venturing into the beauty spa industry, securing a commercial space felt like navigating a maze blindfolded. However, Justin Agans came to my rescue like a guiding light in the darkness of uncertainty. Justin's expertise and professionalism made the entire process not just manageable but remarkably stress-free. From crafting the Letter of Intent to meticulously dissecting the lease agreement, Justin's thoroughness and direct approach instilled in me a profound sense of confidence. As a fellow professional and business owner, I truly appreciate his straightforward communication and dedication to ensuring every detail was addressed. Thanks to Justin's guidance and the outstanding support from Spengler & Agans, PLLC, I now have the perfect space for my beauty spa business. Knowing that I can rely on Justin and his team for any future business expansions brings immense peace of mind. Without a doubt, Spengler & Agans, PLLC, will be my go-to for all legal matters, all thanks to Justin's unparalleled assistance. If you're seeking legal counsel that goes above and beyond, look no further than Spengler & Agans, PLLC, and specifically, Justin Agans. We worked with Eric Spengler with Spengler & Agans, PLLC for a few months only to solve a dispute that included a signed contract. When I say we only worked with him a few months, it’s meaning is because he got the job done!! All our case took was a certified letter to the defendant telling him that he would be taken to court and we immediately saw action! We were able to go the entire process without having to make contact with the defendant. We felt confident and put trust in Eric, that he could make the contact and get what we needed, and he did! Eric was very prompt in all of his timing, calls, emails, and kept to his word when saying something would get done and be done. Eric is a professional seeking to help others in cases they can’t fight alone. Eric took a very long and traumatizing process, for my husband and I, and corrected it by being efficient, just, knowledgeable (in the court system), and positive about our case! We won our case in only a few short months (it takes time to get a letter out and court date) and were able to obtain our personal properties that we were owed, once and for all. Although, litigation is not something we would ever have imagined needing to encounter, we can’t be more happy than our choice in going with Spengler & Agans, PLLC!! Highly recommend them to anyone in need. We are forever grateful. Thank you Eric and company! -Jhonny and Kristin Silva

Excellent lawyer! She did an AMAZIN job on my case.. First thought was public defender does not care enough, I am going to lose. not this lawyer. She was concerned, confident about case and we WON! Even if the case was a guilty verdict, she is still a great lawyer. She knows her stuff and most importantly she cares. Thank you for time and talent Ms. Grill... My family and I are most grateful!

As with any legal matter, it is likely an emotional matter for those going through it. You don't usually PLAN to hire an attorney but when you do, Lori Keeton is who you need. I had the fortunate/unfortunate need to call Lori due to a business matter that needed a heavy level of expertise. She not only calmed my fears, but she expertly laid out my situation in a way that made it seem way less frightening. Lori's communication skills are incredible - personable, thorough (you can hear her taking furious/detailed notes - she's not missing a THING). I would recommend Lori for any business litigation needs you would have. She's been recognized in the Charlotte community as a leader, and you wouldn't go wrong having her contest your battles. She's absolutely amazing.

Lori Keeton Law was an exceptional help to our small business as they worked through our business practices from a risk management perspective then advised on items such as employment contracts, non-disclosure agreements etc. They will also be reviewing all of our contracts with both clients and vendors. Lori has an excellent knowledge base and a genuine care and concern for her clients.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Charlotte, North Carolina?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
