I am so grateful for Matt Arnold and his team. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would ever be going through a divorce. After almost 22 years of marriage that is exactly what I was doing and I was a complete mess. At the consultation Matt was straight forward and painted an accurate picture of what to expect. From the hiring of Matt to our final day in court was a 5 1/2 year process. Throughout the entire process Matt and Joanna, his paralegal, were amazing. Never...ever did I feel unimportant. Whenever they were working with me I felt like their only client. I had some less than stellar moments and every time they would kindly and graciously help me get back on track and refocused on the end goal. We had several court dates throughout this divorce process. Every time Matt was completely prepared. He is formidable. He doesn't get flustered or caught off guard. He has a grasp and understanding of the law that is, in my honest opinion, unmatched. He and his team leave no stone unturned. They do absolutely everything they possible can to achieve your absolute best outcome. The divorce process most likely will take longer than you want and cost more than you want. The lawyer you hire to carry you over the "finish line" holds your future in their hands. It is a decision that will have a ripple effect on the rest of your days. You want those hands to be strong, capable, tireless, genuine, knowledgeable, determined, and willing to fight for you. Those hands belong to Matt Arnold. That may sound "corny" as you read my review. I am emotional as I write it. I honestly and whole heartedly mean every word. This mid 50s ish old woman who was heart broken and fearful could not be more grateful for Matt Arnold and his team. I know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, I was in very good capable hands and I am eternally grateful . Matt Arnold is who you want representing you.

2018 I consulted 2 attorneys before contacting Mr Arnold. I was told twice that I screwed myself being Pro Sa and that I’m lucky my ex bf- no blood relation to my son, didn’t get more visitation rights than what was awarded. I wasn’t accepting that. Matt Arnold and his team got my case dismissed and my ex no longer had rights to a child who was not biologically his. I would chose him again in a heartbeat and have recommended him to others. When I was told the door had closed, Mr Arnold knocked it down. Thank you so much!

As my family law attorney, Matt Arnold has done an exceptional job in representing the interests of me and my child. I observed his overall performance as a lawyer and specifically in his capacity as a courtroom litigator. Ashley Crowder has also done an exceptional job in serving me in this case. Both Mr. Arnold and Ms. Crowder are knowledgeable, well-prepared, organized and well-versed in family court law. Mr. Arnold accepted my case and was able to prepare for trial in less than 30 days. As a result of his expertise and dedicated work effort, he was able to obtain a successful outcome on my behalf. Mr. Arnold and Ms. Crowder work exceptionally well as a team and both of them kept me apprised of the timing and steps in the proceedings at all times. Mr. Arnold is highly professional, knowledgeable and strategic in dealing with his clients’ interests. He is a strong communicator and collaborative with his clients in the way that he approaches the issues and makes a plan to address them. Ms. Crowder is equally professional and adept in her communications skills. Mr. Arnold has an exceptional staff. He has a highly-experienced team of associate attorneys, paralegals and administrators. The team is very responsive and timely in completing work. They maintain a clear line of communication regarding progress and calendaring of hearings and filings of motions. The team is polite, professional, and a pleasure to work with. Mr. Arnold and his staff have a proven track record that has demonstrated his ability to successfully represent his clients in a way that instills confidence and delivers the best results for you and your children. I highly recommend Mr. Arnold, Ms. Crowder, and the staff at Arnold and Smith, PLLC, to effectively handle family court and custody case proceedings in your best interest.

Excellent lawyer! She did an AMAZIN job on my case.. First thought was public defender does not care enough, I am going to lose. not this lawyer. She was concerned, confident about case and we WON! Even if the case was a guilty verdict, she is still a great lawyer. She knows her stuff and most importantly she cares. Thank you for time and talent Ms. Grill... My family and I are most grateful!

As with any legal matter, it is likely an emotional matter for those going through it. You don't usually PLAN to hire an attorney but when you do, Lori Keeton is who you need. I had the fortunate/unfortunate need to call Lori due to a business matter that needed a heavy level of expertise. She not only calmed my fears, but she expertly laid out my situation in a way that made it seem way less frightening. Lori's communication skills are incredible - personable, thorough (you can hear her taking furious/detailed notes - she's not missing a THING). I would recommend Lori for any business litigation needs you would have. She's been recognized in the Charlotte community as a leader, and you wouldn't go wrong having her contest your battles. She's absolutely amazing.

Lori Keeton Law was an exceptional help to our small business as they worked through our business practices from a risk management perspective then advised on items such as employment contracts, non-disclosure agreements etc. They will also be reviewing all of our contracts with both clients and vendors. Lori has an excellent knowledge base and a genuine care and concern for her clients.

  3. Who will be handling my case?

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Charlotte, North Carolina?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
