Attorney Sabrina Blain is a God-send. She took my case the afternoon before my trial date and defended me like she’d had my case for months. She is sharp, quick, professional and authentic. I highly recommend her as a Family Law attorney and I will ever be indebted to her.

From the first conversation I had with Sabrina, my instincts told me she was the right person to bring into my extremely complicated custody case. The case dragged on for almost two years finally ending in a final custody trial. Sabrina was my counsel for each step of the way. Sabrina and I were able to work together as a team to navigate each step across a very challenging road. Sabrina has the ability to listen, organize strategy, and execute a plan. She possesses only positive energy and is dynamic when appropriate. While there are many examples I could refer to throughout this long process, where i was absolutely most impressed was over the course of the 11 hour trial. Sabrina's level of preparation was outstanding. She also possesses a masterful ability to think very quickly and multi task during a live trial. Her ability to be creative is also excellent, which is highly necessary when trying to manage the rules of the courtroom. Her level of skill when cross examining is second to none. She was able to take a case that is of the most challenging type possible and expose the truth in the most surprising way. My expectations were beyond exceeded! I could not have asked for a better result. The decision to partner with Sabrina blain as my attorney, turned out to be the absolute correct decision.

I hired Sabrina a year and a half to help me gain custodial access and legal rights to my son. Sabrina's warm and compassionate nature combined with her sharp intellect immediately told me I had hired the right lawyer. My case was long and arduous due to a very difficult opposing party. Sabrina and her outstanding team threw themselves into the case with energy and commitment. They became emotionally invested in my cause and often worked overtime to ensure they did the best job possible. This was immensely reassuring during some difficult times. Sabrina and her firm are straight talking, honest and hard working. They deliver the results they say they can. At the final hearing of my child custody case I got the best outcome I could have hoped for. I have worked with Sabrina extensively through what has been a tough 18 months and I couldn't possibly recommend her services more highly. Many thanks again.

Josh is a native Charlotte man who knows the area and people well. He understood my case well and helped me even though I was not the most rich or fancy client. Josh knows people and it makes him a good lawyer. He is honest, and I do not get a feel like he is trying to make money, but help me. His office is a little outdated and he is old fashioned (uses a fax machine) but he is more experienced and knows the law better than many recent graduates at big firm. I recommend him to anyone in need of a down to earth criminal attorney.

Mr. Kirkley handled my personal injury case. He was very professional and got me results that were beyond my expectations. The entire staff is polite and courteous. They were quick to return my calls and answer all my questions. I would highly recommend Kirkley & Stanley Law Offices to anyone who has an accident. I have referred friends and family to their firm for accidents and traffic related matters.

Excellent lawyer! She did an AMAZIN job on my case.. First thought was public defender does not care enough, I am going to lose. not this lawyer. She was concerned, confident about case and we WON! Even if the case was a guilty verdict, she is still a great lawyer. She knows her stuff and most importantly she cares. Thank you for time and talent Ms. Grill... My family and I are most grateful!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Charlotte, North Carolina?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
