Pros
1

2
Efficient and timely service
“Punctual, responsive, is what I look for as my time is valuable. Beth was great about explaining, providing examples, and helping me get through the process.”
3
Excellent communication and client focus
“Friendly and efficient. Great communication. Made the process easy and pain-free from start to finish.”
Cons
1
Lack of responsiveness and communication issues
“Every time I have a closing at this law office it is a disaster. Being a broker on the selling side, we do not pick the attorney's office. I have emailed and called this office about 7 times on the same subject with no response and when I finally demanded one from the front desk, they say, they will get back to me. The service is horrible, same experience every time!”
2
Delays and mistakes in closing process
“The easiest closing you could ask for - cash deal - no loan pay off. They could have had the paperwork done two weeks before the closing. But no. Buyer was from out of town. They forgot to send the closing papers to be sign until two days before the closing. They didn't send the information for wiring the funds until the day before and then did not follow up with the client.”

They handled my real estate closing which had difficulties due to it being 4 houses needing to close all on the same day (a domino closing). One of the buyers did not do what they were supposed to & caused a delay for all of us. Knipp handled it without a hiccup. Nice people. Very responsive. If up in the Lake Norman area, and need real estate lawyer I highly recommend.

My Estate Planning experience was so much more than I could have imagined! I THOUGHT I had my matters tended to, but after going through the steps, I realized I was lacking greatly and far from prepared. The advice and guidance offered through the whole process was very detailed and thorough. The steps they assisted with in finding all the needed documents and contact information were invaluable. The process was very orderly and anyone I dealt with was very pleasant and a pleasure to interface with. The options offered for meeting were very flexible and convenient and the sitting for signature of the final documents was very expedient, having done the prep and review. It is a good feeling to know I have so many bases now covered and am set to be able to relax, knowing that my directives and wishes are now set in place. Thanks for all you did! I accomplished a very large goal with your help! Roger

We were referred to Adam by our accountant. We had a performance clause in a real estate contract we needed to make sure was balanced and represented our interests. Adam consulted with us and provided an opinion we were fine and didn't charge us. We're planning to now go to Adam for estate work and other general matters concerning our holdings. Adam is professional and straight forward. Adam's efforts for us convinced us he's someone we'll take engage for future legal needs.

If you are looking for an attorney that is very approachable, caring and listens to your needs. Then you have come to the right place. Stephen Allinger works with the David Self Law, PLLC. I came in for consultation about separation and divorce. They explained how their office works and what is involved when retaining an attorney. Stephen listened to my story and understood what I was going through. He asked questions that would pertain to my situation as well as what next steps were and he was either an email or phone call away. I was so comfortable with the consultation I retained them before leaving. It was easy to set up appointments on line when I needed as well. The best part is of the process I was able to complete what I wanted to do very quickly. Stephen is a great family attorney I would highly recommend!! You do not need to look anywhere else!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Cornelius, North Carolina?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
