Too cocky and too sure of results before court dates that always resulted in opposite of what he was “so sure” of, also was not fully focused for my final hearing in which he failed to provide all the documents i got ready for him to the judge and afterwards i asked him why did he not provide all the documents his response was simply “I don’t know”...after final court date i gave him calm honest feedback face to face which he was not professional enough to handle and got very defensive and raised his voice to me in front of others at the court house...would not recommend at all for any services.

I was referred to David after I noticed my original attorney seems to be working against me with the opposing attorneys rather than for me. He was attempting to make me settle on terms that I wasn't comfortable with and that I did not want to accept. David listened to my needs, analyzed the whole situation, and requested documents for review and was totally honest & transparent throughout the process. With a mediator, we were able to accept a much better settlement than previously proposed. I highly recommend David for any family law services you need.

I would highly recommend David to anyone seeking representation for Family Court. He was my attorney through a very lengthy divorce. He was always very honest, knowledgeable, thorough and competent with every aspect of my case...which, at times, became very contentious. He always provided confidence and positive assurances when I was feeling hopeless. Divorce can be very trying, but I always knew I could count on David to reel me in and provide sound advice for a favorable outcome. I would recommend David over and over!

"I was very pleased with how honest David was on the very first meeting. He never gave me false hope and told me how it was going to play out from the beginning. I really appreciated this and really respected him for that. My situation did not turn out like I wanted it too but that had nothing to do with David or his capabilities to represent someone. He is a very knowledgeable attorney and has the best interest of the children or individuals involved. Divorce, Separation, Child Support, and so on are things that will never have a positive view point from the start and very rarely are they positive in the end. There is never a winner in cases like these however, I know that David is a fighter at heart, He is a winner at heart, and he has a great passion for family and will do whatever he can to help you or your family."

David was my attorney through my separation and divorce. He did a great job helping me know what to expect. He is a straight shooter and talked me through the different options I had and supported my decisions. I knew he was on my "team" and felt confident in his ability to represent me. Not only is he a great attorney, but he is a great person. He was was easy to talk to and made a very difficult situation less stressful by being timely in his responses to calls and emails. He was up front about cost and did not have any hidden costs or fees. I highly recommend David if you need a divorce attorney.

In working with Ms. Collier for my bankruptcy, I was very please with the level of service she provided me. I walked into her office unsure and afraid of what I was about to do. Christina took me on and spent a lot of time explaining things to me and making the process less intimidating. I would recommend her for ANY financial or real estate needs you have. She is very professional and kind.

In a million years I would not have imagined I would have ended up in such a difficult and emotionally draining divorce proceeding, but I did. Christine was referred to me by a friend. She was patient yet direct with me. She was kind but firm. I trusted her, because she genuinely had my best interests at heart. She was clear about what she would and would not do for me. The opposing Attorney was ruthless. and rattled me at times. She kept me focused, accountable and on track. Only by the grace of God did our disaster end well and our marriage was restored. Once she was sure I was of sound mind she was genuinely happy for us, even though she knew the details of our messy situation. My husband's Attorney did not take it as well, he was in it from what I experienced for the "thrill of the hunt." Christine was seeking the best outcome possible for me and always presented the highest levels of honesty and integrity every time I worked with her. Christine is a "Best in Class" Attorney and an Incredible Woman whom I respect immensely. I recommend her services without reservation.

Ms. Collier was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. She guided me during an extremely stressful time in my life without being judgmental or condescending. She helped me understand the Chapter 7 process in common sense terms but did not speak down to me. She provided quality service at a very reasonable price.

Dustin is easy to work with, very responsive to emails and calls any time of day, and he gets the job done. He is succinct in his work and answered all of my questions during the legal process. I worked with him during a very difficult time, and he was very matter of fact, to the point, and provided guidance to me on legal matters I was unfamiliar with. I would recommend working with him.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Cornelius, North Carolina?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
