We had not updated our Wills or our Trust in 10 years and our circumstances in almost all areas of our Estate Plan needed to be significantly updated in order to represent our current Estate. Our original documents [Wills and Family Trust] were initiated in the State of CA and we are now permanent residents of NC so we asked our CPA for a recommendation for a new Attorney to handle our Estate Planning needs. Thankfully, he recommended Lauren. In our view, she seemed to be the exact fit we were looking for as an administrator of our Estate for the future. Lauren was very thorough in developing an understanding of what our preferences were in terms of all financial matters pertaining to our Estate and during the time we spent together finalizing our Estate Planning Documents, she convinced us that our heirs will be happy we chose Lauren to oversee our Last Will and Testaments.

My wife and I recently hired Lauren Millovitsch, an attorney with Blanco Tackabery Law, to help us with some complicated estate planning. During our only meeting with Lauren, she took all the facts and information that we provided her and provided us with a complete written summary of what she proposed. This included a revocable trust agreement in my name and an revocable trust agreement in my wife's name. Each trust agreement met all of our criteria which included specific tangible personal property distribution and fiduciary provisions. We were most impressed how Lauren was able to fulfill everything that were wanted in these documents in such a legal matter that we could easily understand. Since it had been almost ten years since we had our Last Will and Testament and our Durable Power of Attorney documents executed, we had Lauren review and update each of these important documents. It was amazing the changes that needed to be made to these documents to make them current with our wishes. Lauren reviewed our Living Wills and our Health Care Power of Attorney and said they were fine and did not need any changes. Lauren provided us with extra copies of specific documents for our designated family members who would serve as Executor and Successor Executor if needed. Lauren provided us specific language to update our 401k's and our separate life insurance policies noting that we only had listed a primary beneficiary and we needed to add a contingent beneficiary. Lauren explained how we could title assets in our Trusts to avoid probate and provided details in a Memorandum. Lauren provided us a complete notebook with all documents included and a follow-up checklist which included estate planning documents; health care providers and agents; beneficiary designations, safe deposit box; and asset retitling. Going to a lawyer and going through Last Wills and Testaments, etc., is not something that my wife and I looked forward to doing. We had put off doing this for several years. We are so happy and pleased that we went to Lauren Millovitsch for this important legal process. Lauren was so knowledgeable in everything that we needed to have done. Lauren's warm and caring personality mixed in with her professionalism made our first experience with Blanco Tackabery Law a very positive and rewarding experience.

I am so glad that I chose Rush and his team for assistance. Although most attorneys and firms would probably deem my legal situation minor and routine, Rush realized that it was important and worrisome to me and took the time to understand my concerns and then present several options to consider rather than providing a quick cookie cutter type response with a one size fits all solution. I am definitely pleased with the outcome and hopefully a situation will not arise where I need assistance again, but if I do, then Rush will be my first call.

I procured Rush Watson after interviewing a dozen or more attorneys in Charlotte to represent me on a Larceny and CDV charges. I highly recommend Mr. Watson due to his level of knowledge and compassion towards my charges as a criminal lawyer. Rush stood by me in my time of need and achieved the best possible outcome in my better interest in a court of law. After everything was finalized, I can still reach out to Mr. Watson for legal advise and any concerns I may have regarding moving forward from my unfortunate experience. If you are in need of a Super Lawyer who will go the extra miles you might need, I highly recommend giving Mr. Watson a chance and represent you. I could not have asked for a better lawyer and got very lucky with meeting him when I did. Make Church Watson Law Firm your first call when in need of legal representation and see what they can do for you.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Davidson, North Carolina?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
