After seeing on his website that Mr. Ratchford handles traffic tickets I sent an email asking if he could help with my family member’s traffic ticket. Based on his offiCE’s quick response that he could help, we completed the paperwork they forwarded and dropped it off along with payment in full to his office. We were told it would be resolved in a week or two. After a week I inquired and nothing had happened. After 2 weeks I inquired and nothing had happened. I was told it would be done by the end of that week. When I checked back in at the beginning of the next week, a paralegal told me Mr. Ratchford went to see the DA but he wasn’t in. I was told by the end of THAT week it would be resolved. At this point I had yet to hear directly from Mr. Ratchford, I was always handled by someone working for him. As the court date approaches, something we would have handled in minutes by paying the fine online continues to worry us day after day, week after week, because he said he could get the charge reduced and prevent impact to our insurance but has done nothing. I understand he probably has much bigger cases, but why take on the case if he didn’t have time to handle it? I could have simply found another attorney or just paid the ticket. This minor case for a busy attorney is important to someone who just wants to stay out of trouble. Who do you turn to when taken advantage of by an attorney - another attorney? We signed a document that said we don’t need to appear in court because Mr. Ratchford will go. Do we trust he will finally act and risk being charged for failure to appear? My check has been cash with nothing to show for it and I am at wits end.

I got a summons and I have no idea why. I called Attorney Ratchford. He meet with me and told me his fee . My identity was stolen in 2015. I thought the hardest part was over then I get a summons for court. The charges were something I know wasn't me Attorney Ratchford listen to me and I feel confident that he will settle this once and for all. I appreciate the legal help. He treats me with respect and diginity. I also use him for charges against my husband. He always does what he says he will do.He treats you like you are his only client. He doesn't push or rush you when he defense you, he treats you with the respect and professional manner. Thank you so much for being on my side. I feel like the outcome will be truthful and honest. I feel like the Court's will know that sometimes they do grab the wrong person. And with the up most respect he treats you with diginity and intergrity . I feel like justice will be served. . .. I will only use Attorney Ratchford because he is on your side. Thanks so much Teresa

I Have been a client of Brents for over 10 years. He genuinely cares for his clients and never hides the truth. He is the absolute best attorney I have ever known. He is steadfast in his defense, and has been elected lawyer of the year by the Gaston gazette several times. He will fight until the bitter end, and he will always have his clients best I interests at heart. Brent knows it is a miserable time for his clients, but he always has a smile and a kind word, many times when clients need to hear it most. Sure, he must get paid, but he is the type of stand up person who would love to reform all his clients. He has been there for me through the worst and the best, and there is no one I would rather have at my side. Mr Ratchford, you are a great attorney and an even better person.

Jennifer Palmer was assigned to my case in 2023, and from the very beginning and currently she remains very professional, down to earth and straight forward. She doesn’t tell me what I want to hear being her client. As my attorney, she gives me the facts, the good, the bad and the possibilities. She exerts nothing but legal professionalism. Jennifer is always available to answer all my questions, listen and most importantly she allows me to be heard while going through an unfortunate legal matter.

Mr. Low communicated with me on a level that was easy for me to comprehend. I am not familiar with tenant law, but he made me aware of my rights and helped me figure out the steps I needed to take to protect them. He walked me through step by step- something any attorney I have ever hired has NEVER done for me.

My family hired Scott Rosenberg to help with a felony charge against a family member. Before retaining his help, he sat us down and listened to the facts of the case as we knew them. Then, he was very honest and open about what could and could not happen with regards to the case. He did not paint too rosy a picture nor did he sugar-coat what he was capable of doing. He was very honest with how he felt he could help. As the case progressed, he continued to keep us updated with emails and phone calls. He would ask for information/documents as well which we sent via email (very convenient). He attended each court date with us. As a result, the person charged with the crime never had to address the court personally other than to say "Rosenberg" one time when asked who represented him. This took a lot of stress off of us. He has a great relationship with the courts in Gaston County and is well-respected. I think he actually worked for the county at one point. As a result of his work on our case, we were very pleased with the outcome he helped us achieve. I would highly recommend Mr. Rosenberg to be hired for legal representation.

We consulted with Scott based on the reviews on this sight, which were excellent. He was very down to earth told us what to expect from the beginning, and the cost up front which he worked with us on. He kept us informed and was quick about returning calls and emails. In the end we got the result we wanted. I am so glad we went with him hes a great attorney.

Mr. Rosenberg is an honest, highly skilled attorney. He kept us informed at all times of what was going on in our case, all of our options, and his recommendations/plans. He promptly responded to all of our communications. He quoted us a very reasonable price to begin with and then did not go above that even when additional time (and an additional court date) was needed. Mr. Rosenberg does not play the kind of "dirty games" that many attorneys play and he does not fabricate or stretch the truth simply to win a case. It's very unfortunate that there are not more attorneys out there like Mr. Rosenberg.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Gastonia, North Carolina?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
