I recently retained Charles Lloyd to represent me in my complex, double-felony sex-offender registration violation case. Both Charlie Lloyd and his partner at LLOYD & NASH, Michael Nash, met with me multiple times to understand the urgencies and sensitivities of my case and hear my concerns. They researched case law and worked behind the scenes with court officials, and within 48 hours, we had all options and concerns on the table. In fact, Charlie and Michael were able to persist even after two other legal firms were unable to handle this sensitive case that was destined to send me to prison for 5 years. Even though it was exceedingly difficult to face what I considered unscrupulous authorities and changing procedures for these publicly-abhorrent charges, I was well advised to plead. In fact, as a result, Charlie and Michael were able to reduce my legal exposure to a probationary period. Indeed, exceptional communication, great persistence and strong personal connections resulted in an outcome beyond all expectations, especially given the difficulties of navigating court proceedings with these publicly abhorrent charges. Lloyd and Nash are likely not the cheapest legal representation in town, but because of their capabilities and experience, I would always trust them to handle my freedom and well being. They clearly care for clients and they are highly capable, professional and personable. They had a keen ability to cut through the legal and procedural bullshit to strategically develop a range of practical options and work closely with the court to reach a fair and just conclusion. If you’re faced with difficult circumstances in a sex-offender or another criminal case, I would highly recommend having Charlie Lloyd defend your freedom.

I have been a client of Mr. Lloyd since the passing of Kenneth Carrington from whom Mr. Lloyd expanded his client base upon taking over Mr. Carrington's practice. I was fortunate enough to count myself among them. As a troubled teen and into my 20s - 30s between Mr. Carrington and Mr. Lloyd I on occasion required their services. I must say that I have never been disappointed and have always without fail received top notch legal representation and most often a better than expected outcome. I couldn't complain if I tried, because there simply isn't anything that I can see that could've been done better to insure the best possible outcome with respect to my needs and just the all around ease with witch things are handled by Mr. Lloyd and his more than capable staff. If you need legal representation in this field of legal practice then just do yourself a favor and save some time and grief and money and give Mr. Lloyd a call. In 30 yrs I have never been disappointed and I'm more often amazed at the results than anything. Mr. Lloyd is the best! Hands down.... I didn't say he's the rest. I said he's the best. Don't go in expecting a pat on the back and a sugar coated smile as he takes your fee and says what he "might" be able to do. No Mr. Lloyd cares and it shows when he speaks to you about lessons needed to be learned and he's not afraid to tell you where you messed up or need improvement. I wouldn't have it any other way, because at the end of the day I've had first hand experience with Mr. Lloyd's services in comparison with the competition and the fact is that there is no comparison. They are the rest. Mr. Lloyd is the best!!!! To Mr. Lloyd I would like to express my sincerest and humblest gratitude for once again delivering the same level of service on my last and recent case with an even better than expected outcome with the same ease of handling the issue I'm accustomed to. Thank Again! Erik

When my son got into trouble, Mr. Lloyd was a straight shooter and kept us informed every step of the way. During the trial, it was like watching "Matlock" at work! He was amazing. Never giving up. His whole heart is in his work and the caring and compassion that he showed towards my family was remarkable. I would highly recommend Mr. Lloyd and would hire him again if ever needed.

I needed serious criminal defense against a very difficult-to-defend false accusation of child molestation and Mr. Charles was frank, to-the-point; and all the advice he gave, courtroom performance, dealings with the plaintiff's side, etc. were as professional as I could have hoped for... I've been in court before in a civil case that went three days in trial to jury, and was represented by someone who had all the fancy credentials, but their preparation and court performance was not very good and I lost, so I know the difference between someone who is competent, and someone who is not. And I'm here to tell you, a competent attorney is paramount; especially in the courtroom. It's often the only difference between winning and losing. And, here's the kicker... it's not necessarily how much you pay. I lost the civil case with a very expensive attorney, and I essentially won with Mr. Charles, who is very reasonable on costs/price. Upon Mr. Charles' advice, we went into court and before it even began, he was able to reach an agreement with the plaintiff and their counsel that spared me any criminality, saved me a fortune in further legal costs, and got me back to normal in no time. I was, and am, thrilled with how well it turned out. And, due to the nature of the accusations, there was a very short time table to respond to summons to appear in court. Mr. Lloyd worked around his normal schedule to make it happen to the best outcome possible. The plaintiff did not get the order they sought due to Mr. Lloyd's actions. If you need a criminal defense attorney in Greensboro who knows what they are doing, knows the courts in-and-out, and knows how best to serve you, there's no one better in my opinion. I will be forever grateful to Mr. Lloyd for helping me in a very difficult time, defending against one of the hardest accusations to defend against. Some might suggest I got lucky in fending off the false accusation of child molestation early on, but it wasn't luck. It was a competent attorney in Mr. Lloyd who knew exactly how to handle this case to avoid criminal prosecution, enormous expense, and all the psychological trauma involved in being accused of such a terrible crime. I believe Mr. Lloyd has a younger partner in Mr. Nash. And, if he's learning from the wise man, Mr. Lloyd, I'm sure he could serve you well too.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Greensboro, North Carolina?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
