Literally the worst encounter with a law office. Daniel Karlsson was very unprofessionally late and would rather take your money than be honest and say he doesn't feel comfortable taking your case. To then refund and send you out of the office if you bother to ask questions about payment and why you will still pay full price even if you do all the work of gathering and organizing everything need for your case. He made me feel like I had already lost my case. By the tone of his voice and facial reactions, he was believing the non sense and accusations from the opposing party. Several times I had to ask him how he felt about this case and his confidence level about it, it was not promising. He had no faith in my evidence (that he ignored to look minus one item), and honestly shocked how he spoke to me considering he worked with the innocence program and studied women and gender studies?! He has no idea how to speak to a concerned and terrified mother. Also, this office can't get appointments timed properly and they are more of a puppy mill-- you're just a # and $ to them. You'll have everyone but the attorney you made an appointment with try to come in and speak to you on their behalf. It was without a doubt the worst experience with attorneys I've ever had. I'll never recommend this place. I should've listened to the other reviews on here and the people in the waiting room telling me to run and get someone else immediately because they will not fight for you. So glad I dodged a bullet!! Do yourself a favor and do not hire this office.

Ms. Dunmore is a genie! She represented my case almost 2 months before the court date and worked magic for me, never even spoke to her, yet she turned it all over in my favor. Thank you Ms. Dunmore.

My experience with Nancy Meyers and Ward Black Law has been excellent. From the first call and over the span of 3 years of government process, Nancy and her support team have been engaging, responsive and kind.

Nancy Meyers and her team at Ward Black were amazing to deal with. I hired them for a SIRVA case. My shoulder injury resulted from a flu shot administered incorrectly at Moses Cone hospital in Greensboro NC in which the hospital denied any wrong doing. Nancy and her team didn’t hesitate to take on my case They kept me informed along the way and through the entire process. Always had time to answer questions and fought very hard to get me the settlement I deserved. I feel like a gained a friend as well as an excellent attorney I hope I will never need their services in the future but they would be the 1st call I’d make if I needed and injury attorney. To sum it up, they were AWESOME to work with and I am very pleased with the settlement they obtained for me! Christy

Nancy and her team are the absolute BEST! Nancy was so kind, caring, compassionate, and extremely knowledgeable regarding a vaccine injury to my son. Nancy and her team we so wonderful to work with, they were amazing. There is no one out there more competent and educated on vaccine injury than Nancy. I feel so blessed to have found her. The settlement was more than I could have ever imagined. There are not enough words to describe how incredibly wonderful Nancy and her team are!

I reached out to Mr. O'Neal with questions about a matter of mine. He timely responded. He was professional and courteous. He also timely gave me an assessment of my situation. If need be I would definitely hire this attorney.

My husband had mutlipule traffic citations in multiple counties in NC from his college days that resulted in a suspended license. Mr. O'Neal went to 3 of those counties to handle each citation. These counties were a few hours away from each other. Mr. O'Neal was in constant communication with me during the entire process and got my husband the best possible outcome. He got all of his charges either reduced or dismissed and he didn't receive any points on his license. I would recommend Mr. O'Neal to anyone looking for an attorney that truly has his client's best interest at heart. My husband and I are very grateful for his hard work on his case and wouldn't hesitate to hire him again.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Greensboro, North Carolina?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
