I would’ve really appreciated better communication. That being said, Ms.Lee is assertive and professional in the courtroom despite consistent micro aggression against her. I don’t think that Hendersonville County Courthouse is progressive enough for a black female attorney. Despite egregious behavior that I witnessed from both judges and other attorneys towards Ms. Lee, she somehow showed up to court with a smile on her face and focused on arguments based ON THE CHILDREN. Unlike what I witnessed from the opposing white male attorney who had no arguments regarding the children and therefore, attacked my character (complete unfounded and unrelated to the children) and who the judge clearly favored. It seemed like there was a “bro code” in place. I never saw that friendly of an interaction with Ms. Lee. I have also overheard other attorneys and have listened to other people tell me that unfortunately she has an unfair disadvantage because of her race. Most have agreed that although it’s unfair, maybe I should switch attorneys which I found to be disgraceful. I’ve heard others use derogatory terms to describe her that from my experience are completely unwarranted. It’s absolutely appalling. I am biracial myself, which I’m sure did not help my situation. However, for her to show up to a group of peers where this is the underlying attitude and then be expected to trust other professionals or be a ball of sunshine all the time is absurd. I literally heard a judge repeatedly tell her “watch your attitude” when she became passionate about injustice. Words that weren’t once uttered to the white male opposing counsel who got much louder than she ever did. My regret in working with her is that I allowed others to persuade me against her subtle recommendations when it came to domestic violence. Little did I know that statistically I had a greater than two fold chance of loosing time with my children as a punishment for asking for help with domestic violence. And Ms. Lee has too much integrity to ever dissuade me from seeking protection. But I wish that I would have heard the subtleties of how it could affect my child custody case because in hindsight it was clear that she understood the corrupt nature of family law in Henderson County. I was too naive to understand that the system was not made to give a damn about women and children. When her advice sounds wrong, it is because she is giving you the right advice for a court system set up to defend the rights of men while maintaining women and children as property…particularly the brown-black ones. No one will fight harder for you but you have to follow her advice even when it sounds unjust because she is a caring advocate in an incredibly messed up system.

Scott Sheffron went above and beyond when handling my case. I was falsely charged with two crimes affecting my ability to obtain work and defaming my character. He was able to have the charges dismissed. I would highly recommend Mr. Sheffron and his legal team!
