Kesai closed several transactions for me, including my personal home purchase. She never appeared rushed at any point in the transaction and took the time to explain all the documents we were signing. She was very knowledgeable and even caught some mistakes that the HOA had made and quickly had that issue resolved. She returned calls and emails quickly. She even made our closing time work, even though we had to change it several times! Highly recommend!

Kesai was my real estate attorney on my new home for my daughter and myself. I closed briefly before my daughter arrived and the process could not have been smoother. The sellers were going through a divorce and made things a little difficult, but not for me. All the kinks were taken care of for me and I just had to show up, review the documents , and sign. She took the time to go through any questions I had with care. I could tell she wanted to make sure I understood the process. Buying this home was a major step in starting my new life. It's means a lot to me when people take the time to make you feel educated and comfortable in this major decision. She may do this all day and everyday, but I felt like I was her only client.

I had the pleasure of connecting with Houston in the creation of a new business entity for a franchise opportunity. I found out the lawyer I had been working with previous was out of pocket for two weeks which caused a huge time dilemma. I decided my best option was to contact several franchise lawyers to try to find someone who could assist my efforts. Houston responded immediately. We had a great initial call, and he was able to coach me through the whole process in a very timely manner along with quickly establishing my business entity with the Secretary of State. What initially started as a problem for me, ended up being a blessing in disguise to work with Houston. His attention to detail, ability to provide advice and clarity to all questions, along with fast turn around truly sets him apart from his peers. I highly recommend Houston as a valuable resource and I look forward to the continued relationship.

As a newly emerging small business owner, I needed an experienced attorney to (a) advise me as to the best business structure (ie sole proprietor, LLC, etc) for my business and (b) review my contracts. Mr. Barnes did both promptly and thoroughly, He took the time to explain things to me in easy-to-understand terms, and I feel he took great care of me with regard to the work he did. He was reachable and responsive as well (ie, he responded to phone calls and messages in a very timely manner - which is important to me). Grateful to have found him and to have him as my attorney.

Houston's experience, professionalism, and integrity was invaluable during equity negotiations with my startup founders. I am extremely satisfied with the results of his work which involved navigating difficult personalities, strong emotions and complicated offers. Houston is also easy to talk to, translates difficult legal issues well, and most importantly- fought for me. I strongly recommend him!

I was in need of a standard pre-nup and Judy was a part of my company's group legal plan and local to me, so I contacted her. Despite a delay (caused entirely by me & my circumstances), every time I contacted her she was prompt in reply and got my agreement done. Would definitely recommend her!

I have retained Attorney Judy Tseng for two different family cases. Attorney Tseng has a good personality and she is a good communicator. Attorney Tseng explains the legal process, discloses any fees upfront, and conveys expectations. Attorney Tseng executes the process with ease from beginning to end. I appreciate Attorney Tseng so much that I have labeled her my lawyer for life.

I contacted Judy from a referral on my legal plan many years ago. She was extremely prompt in scheduling our appointment to discuss my divorce proceedings. Not only is Judy knowledgeable regarding family law, she is extremely caring and compassionate. She will go above and beyond to ensure you are getting the service that you need. It has been several years since my divorce and I recently reached out for a document. She was so quick to respond and assist. I cannot say enough about her dedication to her clients. Best divorce attorney in the Raleigh area:)

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Morrisville, North Carolina?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
