Let me tell you! Everyone I came in contact with in this office has been nothing but Amazing! I got behind on bills trying go to school full time so I can further my career and work as much as I could. I was running out of options my last option was to file for bankruptcy, I was extremely nervous and I did not know much about bankruptcy but when I tell you Jaelah Hicks held me by my hand and walked me throughout this process, she was Heaven sent, always very attentive and there to answer any questions I may have in a timely manner. My father who utilized this law firm for Bankruptcy support passed away January 2023. When my father was ill (in the hosp for 4 weeks) I reached out to the firm and requested a call back. That call never happened. Once my father passed. I wanted to get started on handling the bankruptcy. I called the law firm for 2 weeks before anyone returned my call. I had to be aggressive to even get that communication. Finally, attorney Jon Friesen arranged a call. Mr. Friesen was very kind during that call and provided me with the state of the bankruptcy. Needless to say my dads financial affairs were not in order so I had many questions as I was uncertain of how to proceed. I requested a second consult and it took another couple weeks to speak to Mr. Friesen. This difficulty with reaching him continued through July 2023 when the bankruptcy was dismissed. While he was always very nice it was most difficult to reach him. I have to admit that I went back and forth on my decision of my dads property and the best way to move forward with the bankruptcy. I have never lost a parent or filed bankruptcy so I was in the dark. I sought out consultations with other attorneys for most of my guidance during the process. My dads monthly bankruptcy pymt was $1321. I have my own financial obligations which was explained to Mr. Friesen and was told to continue paying the pymt “until further notice” as him and his team took their time to put together a motion to adjust the components of the bankruptcy at my request to see if it would be more feasible in terms of the monthly amount. Mr. Friesen came back about 1 week before the court date and provided me with a$1400 pymt with one piece of property on the bankruptcy. He also promised during the process that he would talk to a judge/lawyer he knew for more info on how much time I might have before foreclosure proceedings if the bankruptcy was dismissed. This never happened and also probably wasn’t very ethical. Finally, due to the spotty communication and me not feeling that my fathers case was being handed properly, I showed up to the dismissal hearing where Mr. Friesen had advised that he would not be there. The trustee spoke to me in general (no details or representation as they can’t since attorneys are SUPPOSED to be representing my fathers best interests) but he and another lady called Mr. Friesen. I spoke to him on the phone (quickest communication in 6 months) and advised I was there because I did not feel like this case was being handled with the utmost care and concern so that I knew next steps because it might be another month before Mr. Friesen responded. The previous day Mr. Friesen shared that I’d receive the dismissal paperwork within about week. The day of court he advised that I’d have it that day it at the last Monday. This was Thursday. I received the dismissal letter from Mr. Friesen on Friday. Had I not shown up to court who knows when I would have received the needed document to finalize my fathers affairs. This has been the most difficult year with losing my father and fighting to get good representation to finalize his affairs. It’s like a loss all over again. I won’t speculate on the reasons for the constant communication issues or subpar representation but I do know that I would not recommend this firm for any bankruptcy matters. My father was a good man but had little education. I feel that this was known and he was not advised properly from this firm. He was an elderly man just trying to save the property he had lived in for over 20+ years.
