So I am going to give as much of a detail review and the experiences i have experienced. I retained Mrs Baker for a issue with a very insane and intense child custody case. My ex left my son and me for a another guy and her and her family constantly called Social Services and law enforcement on me none stop with "Child Abuse" accusations. I was cleared of every single accusation by Social Services and Law Enforcement but the calls kept on being made by my ex wife and her family. Then my ex wife retained a lawyer to pursue custody due to me turning her in for the 2nd time for not paying child support. My mental state was not well due to the constant harassment and constant fear I had for my son and myself. Me being a single father and being retired from the military was not a easy thing to go thru in life. I retained Mrs. Baker in 2015, When i retained her, a reasonable message was sent from her law office to my ex wife to keep it civil. The harassment then stopped immediately. The case got completed in 2017, the length of the case being stretched out was at no fault of my attorney but constant delays with the court's judges availability. But every single hearing that occurred in between those two years has met with what I considered a success for me. I been established as primary parent for my son and have since been receiving monthly child support payment from my ex wife with no interruption. Mrs. Baker and her law firm has continuously ensured me and kept my faith alive during the whole ordeal which was not easy for my son and me. With her and her office representing me, I felt no more worries. They have kept me calm when I felt strong irrational or overzealous emotions during the intensity of the whole situation. In the end, in 2017, my case was finally settled without it having to go to court again. Her professionalism and her staff's professionalism was able to have both my ex wife and myself work out a very very sensible outcome that both benefited my son, myself, and even my ex. I provided everything my law office requested from me to help better build my defense as I was the defendant. I did everything i was instructed to do and even though sometimes there may be a period of no communication, they did show to me how they were actively working on my case to avoid constant excessive personal appearance in the court room and office which really help with my high anxiety in the situation. They help me win primary custody of my son and it shows that best gift I can have is knowing I proved I am a good father. The cost was reasonable, and they were able to provide full itemization of everything that was charged to the trust account. I was able to work out a payment arrangement or two with no issue as I was able to follow thru. I ensured to be on time with Mrs. Baker's office as they are always busy with a tight schedule and their service is amazing and I would highly recommend it. They were always on top of everything and they also got a personal feel of what i wanted for my son and myself. I am relieved and very happy and would gladly recommend them to anyone as I was recommended by a personal friend.

Mrs. Baker and her team did a tremendous job with my family law case. Words cannot express my gratitude and thanks they all deserve. She turned the case around, which will be a landmark case for others to follow. I would hire her again and consider her and the team saviors. They are a must to hire if you want to see justice prevail.

My wife and I recently contacted Bob Gallagher, attorney at Carolina Tax, Trusts & Estates, to establish for our family and ourselves peace of mind for our Last Will and Testament. With Mr. Gallagher's help we now have, for each of us, a Health Care Power of Attorney, a Durable Power of Attorney, and a legal Will. We are very satisfied with the service and documents we received. We recommend Mr. Gallagher and his company to anyone seeking these services. John and Theyl Turner

Jessie Coyle made what I would expect to be a dreaded or maybe even uncomfortable experience a pleasant one.  I appreciate how thoroughly he explained the estate settlement process. After two brief appointments, all planning was completed and documents have been filed. If you have been putting off your estate planning, make an appointment with Jesse today!

I was injured by a drunk driver in a car wreck. I hired an attorney from one of the big firms in Raleigh. After several months of zero progress, another attorney recommended Carson Crooms. It was the best choice I could have made to leave the other firm and hire Carson. He informed me of options I didn't know were available. He kept in communication with me, I never had to wonder what was going on. I knew Carson was handling it. He was extremely knowledgeable and worked hard for me.

I hired Carson to assist with a home warranty claim against my home’s builder. He was incredibly proactive and got us a better result than we could’ve ever hoped for. Carson is a fierce advocate and fought hard against the other attorney. This was my first experience with a lawyer and he made it very easy and highly rewarding. I would highly recommend him to anyone needing legal assistance in the Southern Pines / Pinehurst area.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Southern Pines, North Carolina?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
