Me Gilligan and I went to court and when he came to me he came to me and used the words a singular charge of reckless driving. All paper work I signed regarding this plea only had a singular charge on it, yet later I found out I was also charged and convicted of dwlr non impaired. He will not return my phone calls and this has been years now the DA tells me he’s the only one that can fix this clerical error. No one else. This is in Jackson county. I am still not able to obtain a license due to me gilligan not returning my calls to resolve this matter. Years. I hired Gilligan for my case, and he ensured me that he would appear for me on my court date. That day came around and he DID NOT show up and a bond was out in my name. I never even heard from him that day. I only knew this because the other person involved in my case (who hired a different lawyer) was there and told me that no one was there to represent me. After calling his firm numerous times, I couldn’t get a hold of him. Finall I heard from him and he was on his honeymoon!?!?! Why did you lie and say you would appear in court for me on that day? Why didn’t you tell me you were getting married that week? I guess he tried to do some sort of absence form that somehow didn’t make it to the court. He blamed his paralegal of course (which by the way, he went through 3 different paralegals during the time I had him retained. That speaks volumes of how he runs his business.) after that gets worked out, I complete my community service, turn in the forms to him, and I NEVER HEAR BACK FROM HIM AGAIN. After numerous follow ups, I had to contact the NC STATE BAR and tell them he abandoned my case and wouldn’t talk to me. They told me to write him a letter and see if he responds. He of course, did not. The State Bar calls him and of course he gets back to me right away with no apology that he was ignoring me for weeks. This man is rude, dishonest, uncommunicative, and unreliable. I beg you not to give him a minute of your time or cent of your money. There are much better lawyers in the area. PLEASE DONT HIRE HIM.

I spoke with Mr. Gilligan this morning about a Social Services custody case I'm involved with and although he does not practice in my area, he was very forthcoming and informative even though he wasn't getting paid. Super nice man and super educated in this field...highly recommend!

DSS, acting on an anonymous call making false and baseless allegations, had swooped in and ruined a family vacation. Traumatizing everyone and basically quarantining our 4 year old grand daughter. Spent 4 frantic days calling a litany of lawyer offices, leaving voicemails that never got returned. Waiting and worrying that I should be doing something proactive but not knowing what. I mean your in a state of absolute shock. Mr. Gilligan called me back within 5 minutes, WOW... He spent the next hour patiently answering all my questions and laying out all my options. Legalese was kept at a minimum, any being thoroughly explained. His experience in these matters was amply evident. I'm still worried as i wait, who wouldn't be after reading all the negative press on the DSS (I know its not all negative, the intent to keep children safe is acknowledged and heroic), but after the consult with Mr. Gilligan, the worry of not knowing what I should or should not be doing is gone, and knowledge of what to likely expect, is much clearer. Competitive rates in my opinion, I'd recommend him highly.

I hired Mr. Gilligan for a termination of parental rights this time last year. He promised to have my case settled by Oct, then Nov, then the beginning of this year. I have not heard from him in over 6 months! I have sent letters and called numerous times. He took $1000 of my hard earned money, and filed papers I could have downloaded off the internet and filed myself. Went to court twice only to be turned away due to errors on his part. Hard to explain to my kids why their stepdad hasn't been able to adopt them when it has been almost a year now. So call this guy if you want to just throw your money away and be extremely dissatisfied.

I called the firm after screen on-line for someone. Robert Gilligan, the managing partner, answered the phone himself. I'd called out of the blue to ask about research or a referral to someone that could competently research records at the county courthouse on my behalf. I was impressed that not only did he personally answered the phone on his way out for a hearing but also with his kind, direct manner. After listening to what i was trying to accomplish, he said: "no problem, i'm heading over there anyway for a hearing and will take a look." An uncommonly accommodating thing. He called back within a few days and personally provided details I'd not otherwise have been able to accomplish, even if i'd appeared myself. Polite, responsive, listens well, and understands the interpersonal nature of how things really work - I recommend this gentleman.
