If you want an attorney who will fight for you within the confines of the law then Greg is a good choice. When I left my ex he filed for an Absolute divorce after the 1yr separation requirement. Greg fought for me to have court ordered alimony. There was an unusual twist in my case which Greg successfully helped me with. He is a kind, hard working man. He always promptly replied to my e-mails and answered my questions. His staff is wonderful. Every one I encountered was very kind and helpful Any messages I left for Greg were always given to him. Based on my experience I would recommend Greg if you need an attorney.

Mr. Brewer took the time needed to hear our side from the initial phone call through the end of the trial. Mr. Brewer took the time needed to hear our side from the initial phone call through the end of the trial. Mr. Brewer was excellent with any return calls that he had to make us and was always readily available to answer our questions. Mr. Brewer did everything possible to help us win the custody of our grandson and he was careful to not to make our grandson feel threatened in anyway and made him feel safe when speaking with us at the office.

I was injured at work in 1993 and Mr. Brewer took my case. He made sure the insurance company paid for all of my medical bills and the time I lost at work. I've received a check EVERY week since my accident. This law firm took good care of me and I would highly recommend them for anything! They were on my side when the insurance company was against me.

I have hired Greg, and for the first time in my experience of these legal matters, have actually got an attorney entering evidence for me and giving me vindication in court. He knows well what he is doing, he has over 30 years experience, and I couldn't tell you what a relief it is to actually have a lawyer fighting for you on the front lines as well as in chambers. I know that my prognosis for the outcome of my cases is far greater now that I have him. He's making strides where there was little to none- and in a short period of time already. He's rational, respectable, and fights aggressively for justice. I highly recommend him and there is no one else in the area that I could say amounts to a hill of beans, and I've hired them or consulted with them all. I would rather be pro se than to have any of the rest- but I would rather have him representing me than to be pro se. I have confidence in him and not an ounce of doubt that he would ever deceive me- which was unfortunately constantly experienced with other lawyers in surrounding counties. I'm very grateful that I have found that there is still a lawyer who has his head and his heart on straight. Everything that he has recommended has truly turned out to be the most sound advice. I highly recommend him.

I first met with Mr. Brewer on December 23rd, 2014 about my impending divorce. I was getting divorced from a highly-corrupt and unethical woman who wanted to take me for all I was worth and, above all, tried every trick in the book to separate me (and my family) from my child. I was told by two unrelated individuals to seek Mr. Brewer's expertise and figured I would give it a shot. Lawyers have a bad reputation in many circles, but Mr. Brewer quickly proved that to be wrong in his case. He worked tirelessly to get justice accomplished for myself and my child and now things are better than ever. Without him, I would have been totally thrown under the bus by my former spouse, her attorney and the legal system in general. Kudos to Mr. Brewer and his team for helping out a NC dad so much! I would recommend him to anyone without a doubt.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Wilkesboro, North Carolina?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
