Pros
1
Excellent legal representation and client advocacy
“Brittany Hall was wonderful. She was easily accessible, responsive, communicative and truly had her client's best interests in mind.”
2
Experienced and successful attorneys
“Linda Sayed is the best of the best. I trusted her with a very difficult custody case and she delivered.”
3
Positive client outcomes and satisfaction
“Brittany Hall and her paralegal Pam are the DREAM TEAM of divorce settlement. I never had any legal issues in my past so I was really nervous about hiring a lawyer. Not only did Brittany come highly recommended by someone I trust and respect, but she was an angel to work with and never once did I feel like she wasn't 100% fighting for me.”
4
Dedicated and responsive legal teams
“Linda would always return my calls or respond to my emails by the end of the day. This was not the kind of service I ever received from my prior attorney.”
5
Trustworthy and ethical legal counsel
“Linda Sayed is a very ethical, responsive, and knowledgeable attorney. She has represented me in family law matters exceptionally well the past seven years.”
Cons
1
Unprofessional front desk staff
“Front desk reception should be replaced immediately. Called to potentially use their services and stated if they could give me a call back later per work, immediately got an attitude and told me to call them back, which is fine. But the attitude and way she represented the company turned me off from ever using them.”
2
Potential issues with certain attorneys and staff
“Mr Behm Is not to be trusted nor their paralegal Jennifer. Run far away… Linda and Nate are good but I was totally scammed. Huge wreck of a construction law suit and he abandoned my family. Had to be pro se for over a year. Billed me and no communication.”

I highly recommend, Brittney Hall, who is one of a handful of attorney's that are board certified in family law in New Hanover county, for legal representation. She has top notch communication skills and performed in a timely manner. Most importantly, she has good knowledge and experience that met all my legal needs to great satisfaction. She has integrity and morals that resulted in my peace of mind knowing I was fighting for the right reasons. She displayed perseverance and worked hard to get me the best outcome.

When faced with an extremely stressful court case regarding child custody jurisdiction, we are so grateful we hired Jamie S. Getty! She listened to our needs and went to work right away fighting for our rights and ultimately won our case of jurisdiction and visitation. I felt confident after speaking with her for the first time and knew she was serious and dedicated to our case... and I am certain this is her work ethic and how she handles all cases. We are so thankful for Jamie!

There used to be a saying back in my day that went, "When E.F. Hutton talks, people listen." Well, when Jamie Getty talks, you should listen. Jamie provided me with extremely sound counsel. She coached me to stay away from my own instincts and to follow her guidance. I was not disappointed. She came prepared and delivered the results I was seeking. More importantly, she did it in a kind and professional manner. When Jamie speaks, I'd listen!!! She's phenomenal.

I used JC Hearne for my house real estate closing and it was a painless, smooth experience. He took his time to explain everything to me. I would highly recommend him.

In April I had an emergent situation come up and had to file for custody after previously not having to have an order. In addition, I was having to do so from 2 hours away. Ms. Loshinsky was great from the start. She was always prompt when returning my calls and emails and worked very hard to get the final outcome that I was hoping for. She did her best to make sure that I wasn't having to make unnecessary trips to and from Wilmington, etc. I know that during this process I probably drove her crazy, if I did, she never hinted at it. She was always patient and diligent. I would recommend her and I would use her again should the need arise. Thank you!

Attorney Loshinsky filed my divorce - which was not a cut and dry proposition. I was married to a Mexican National, and we had been married in Mexico City. She was able to get the papers served to my husband in an extremely cost-efficient way that served the requirements of the U.S. court the papers were filed with. She kept me up to date on all the happenings and accomplished the entire divorce process in an expedient and professional manner. I highly recommend her!!

In a world of takers, trust becomes challenging. This intensifies when you're protecting young lives that mean the most to you. With a heavy situation, that I wish on nobody, Yuliya continues to act and react with a professionalism that I thought may have gone extinct.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Wilmington, North Carolina?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
