I had a very difficult case considering the father was not willing to negotiate anything. Janet and Waneta jumped right in and did what they do. Iā€™m a very angry person due to the situation and they were able to keep me focused on the big picture. The ladies in this office are the bomb and I would hire them again in a skinny minute.

Janet and her team did a wonderful job with my case. Every issue and question was addressed and handled both quickly and thoroughly. She went above and beyond to keep me informed with the latest information regarding my case and was extremely helpful and prepared for my hearing. My wife and I were able to get full custody of my daughter and all of the provisions asked for in my court order were granted. Janet goes above and beyond for all of her clients and made sure that I knew my case and outcome was important to her. Janet and her team were hands down the best and most professional attorneys I have worked with and I highly recommend them to anyone who is going through a divorce, domestic issue, or any other civil issues.

If you are in need of a honest, hard-working, dependable, trustworthy, and diligent attorney , look no further. I had to make the hardest decision a parent will have to make and she listened attentively, and heard what I fought not to say, and provided exactly what I needed. She is simply an amazing attorney that has the heart for God's people. Thank you once again for being there in such a time of need!!!!!

I honestly want to thank you and Amy Bender for being my courage and strength when I had none and fighting for me when I thought all was lost. Because of that, I was able to heal without worry and gain my strength, courage, determination, and independence back. Although they couldnt fight all my battles for me, I could still feel the love and support. They truly have become family. I wouldn't recomend anyone else to storm in like bull dogs and fight for what is right. Thank you for giving me my life back. The Lord gave yall this gift for a reason.

Thank you again for everything. I know I have colored outside the recommended lines and have not done the best job of following good advice to the letter. However, I must say the team there at Cape Fear Family Law is terrific. From the time I first met Janet I felt a high level of confidence in her ability. Janet projects competence. Since then ā€“ now two plus years later ā€“ I have experienced the benefit of Janet handling my case and the oddities that went with it. I am thoroughly impressed with Janet as I believe she is extremely capable in every way. I appreciate the great job and effort put forth by Janet, you and entire team at CFFL.

I used JC Hearne for my house real estate closing and it was a painless, smooth experience. He took his time to explain everything to me. I would highly recommend him.

In April I had an emergent situation come up and had to file for custody after previously not having to have an order. In addition, I was having to do so from 2 hours away. Ms. Loshinsky was great from the start. She was always prompt when returning my calls and emails and worked very hard to get the final outcome that I was hoping for. She did her best to make sure that I wasn't having to make unnecessary trips to and from Wilmington, etc. I know that during this process I probably drove her crazy, if I did, she never hinted at it. She was always patient and diligent. I would recommend her and I would use her again should the need arise. Thank you!

Attorney Loshinsky filed my divorce - which was not a cut and dry proposition. I was married to a Mexican National, and we had been married in Mexico City. She was able to get the papers served to my husband in an extremely cost-efficient way that served the requirements of the U.S. court the papers were filed with. She kept me up to date on all the happenings and accomplished the entire divorce process in an expedient and professional manner. I highly recommend her!!

In a world of takers, trust becomes challenging. This intensifies when you're protecting young lives that mean the most to you. With a heavy situation, that I wish on nobody, Yuliya continues to act and react with a professionalism that I thought may have gone extinct.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Wilmington, North Carolina?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
