I had the pleasure of working with Brenna Ragghianti, an attorney at Salines-Mondello. Brenna is an amazing guardianship attorney. She is extremely knowledgeable and very willing to take the time to explain everything about the guardianship process from beginning to end. She has a passion for guardianship and the people involved. She put my daughter and I at ease and we felt very supported. I highly recommend that anyone in need of guardianship and a special needs attorney reach out to Brenna and Salines-Mondello.

Even though I was an out of state client and had estate issues in 2 other states, they worked diligently to make sure all of my issues were resolved. I never had a problem in contacting them or getting my questions answered. I was satisfied with how they handled my mom's estate and I would highly recommend them to anyone. I will say they were on the expensive side but worth every penny.

As a retired business manager I have engaged with many law firms over the years. My wife and I were recommended to the firm by friends who attended a presentation by Lisa Salines-Mondello at the Wilmington Newcomers Club. We made a call to set up a discussion with Lisa about setting up documents for trusts, will/estate preparation, Health Care Proxy and Medicaid Planning. As a result of our meeting we engaged the firm to finalize our preparation for protection for ourselves and our children in the future. We had several face to face meetings with Lisa who listened to our goals, made suggestions and educated us on the correct way to achieve our goals. During the various meetings we were also assisted by TIffany LaBelle Paralegal and William Hurley Associate Attorney. Documents were prepared and we were given a line by line explanation of how they would effect ourselves and our families future. I have to say that we became very impressed on how we were treated and every phase of our initial discussion was finalized. The completed paperwork package we received was organized so that we can reference it very easily. In addition we also have all documents stored on our computers as another asset. I highly recommend if you are entertaining setting up your legal and financial future for you and your family set up an appointment with this firm. I know you will gain the same confidence that we felt and the results have put our minds at ease for the future.

In April I had an emergent situation come up and had to file for custody after previously not having to have an order. In addition, I was having to do so from 2 hours away. Ms. Loshinsky was great from the start. She was always prompt when returning my calls and emails and worked very hard to get the final outcome that I was hoping for. She did her best to make sure that I wasn't having to make unnecessary trips to and from Wilmington, etc. I know that during this process I probably drove her crazy, if I did, she never hinted at it. She was always patient and diligent. I would recommend her and I would use her again should the need arise. Thank you!

Attorney Loshinsky filed my divorce - which was not a cut and dry proposition. I was married to a Mexican National, and we had been married in Mexico City. She was able to get the papers served to my husband in an extremely cost-efficient way that served the requirements of the U.S. court the papers were filed with. She kept me up to date on all the happenings and accomplished the entire divorce process in an expedient and professional manner. I highly recommend her!!

In a world of takers, trust becomes challenging. This intensifies when you're protecting young lives that mean the most to you. With a heavy situation, that I wish on nobody, Yuliya continues to act and react with a professionalism that I thought may have gone extinct.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Wilmington, North Carolina?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
