I retained Jeff Bredahl in a case that I needed an attorney who knew their stuff and was certain and knew they would win my case. From the moment I walked in he told me right away, we got this case. I will never forget how during the 5-6 months during the whole process, Jeff and his team were always there for me. During the process Bredahl and Associates were the only ones there for me. You definitely were not just a client. He also keeps everything short and to the point of what you need. He doesn’t try to just get money out of you like other attorneys. During my trial, which was 3 days long, he stood out and did and AMAZING and outstanding job! After receiving my non guilty verdict, I had numerous jurors come up to me and say whatever you paid for your attorney was well worth it, I’ve never seen an attorney so good and prove their case like he did. Bredahl and Associates know their stuff and will not stop fighting for their clients. They are exactly what an attorney should be! I was referred to Jeff Bredahl by someone else I knew and they said he’s a beast in the courtroom so I trusted them. Not long after being told that I was also told that by numerous other people and eventually got to see for myself. Every penny I paid was well worth it! I now have a custody issue and have came right back to him and hired him again as I know he will get the job done because he is the BEST attorney you will ever find....hands down! I honesty could never thank him and the rest of his team for all they have done for me and for the work they have done and continue to do. If you want the BEST of the BEST and to win any court proceeding; Bredahl and Associates is where you need to go and you will surely be more than happy with the results and treatment you get. I will NEVER hire another attorney again! HUGE THANK YOU to JEFF BREDAHL and his Team!! I PROMISE you will not be disappointed. #teamBREDAHL

I retained Jeff Bredahl with Bredahl and Associates as my attorney in 2018. I have nothing but respect and admiration for the work and extra steps that Mr. Bredahl, as well as everyone in that office did for me personally and my case. The work ethic and true dedication that Jeff Bredahl and his firm put into making sure my case was taken care of to the best of its possibility was amazing! Jeff always gave 110%. Bredahl and Associates makes you feel like your more than just a client. They make you feel like family, and it all starts with Jeff himself! Jeff is one of a kind and he will always be more than just an attorney to me!

Jeff was the best attorney I could have hired. From his diligently picking my jury to fiery cross-examinations. He stands out against other attorneys especially during his opening and closing arguments. The best part of my case was my not guilty verdict! I was also told by other clients he's the only attorney to have won a federal criminal trial in Fargo

I have worked with Fremstad Law since 2011. Both personally and professionally. They have our best interest at heart. They listen to our needs and concerns. They try to direct us to the least expensive solution to solve our needs. They are not just racking up time for a big bill. I've learned a lot from working with them. I'd highly recommend setting up a meeting for a free consult. Actions speak louder than words, let them earn your business the way they earned mine.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Fargo, North Dakota?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
