Very knowledgeable in letting me know what I needed to do and how the whole process works. Easy to understand instruction and made things clear to me. It took a lot of stress off of me the firm handled basically everything. I’d would definitely refer Tony to anyone that needed help with their case. I’m so happy and thankful how my experience went!!

I have social anxiety and other mental health issues, which makes it difficult for me to interact with those in positions of authority, especially if they are men. When I had to seek a lawyer for my disability case, he was the first one to pop up. I was very wary about the whole ordeal because of my mental health issues, but I'm so glad we connected. I brought my mother with me to the first meeting and I could tell that he really listened to my story. He asked questions and made sure we both knew exactly what was going to happen. I could contact him easily through text, email, or his online portal, and with someone with social anxiety, one of the triggers is talking on the phone so I was happy that I could text. He was very easy to communicate with and I feel he represented me very well. He fought for me and we won!

Attorney Anton ( Tony )Ficek stood by me and for me when I couldn't stand alone. The tenacity to continue to fight on behalf of my case after two denials was exemplary. I thought it was over, but he didn't. Anton took his personal time to call after hours and see how I was doing mentally and physically. I wasn't just a case, I was a person that mattered. Two years later we won. It's definitely not always easy, but with him at your side it's definitely not always rough. He listens, he cares, and he wins. That'll make you a winner too. Our win literally changed my life. It gives me access to a life I thought impossible (gives not gave). Anton, I wish you, the firm, current and future clients success. You deserve it and so much more. Thank you.

I initally started the process for SSDI on my own. Well, you know how the saying goes - a person who represents themselves, has a fool for a client. I did a few things wrong and was denied the first time (which is typical). I then found a representative through legal aid (with very little enthusiasm) who filed an appeal for me. That was denied too, and a request for a hearing was filed. Because they had a heavy workload, people were randomly eliminated from the program, and I was one of them. I suddenly found myself without representation shortly before the hearing. As if this entire process wasn't stressful enough, I spent days in extreme anxiety, imagining worst case senarios. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Somehow I happened to find an ad for Ficek Law Firm and gave them a call. It was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Tony agreed to represent me just weeks before my hearing. His knowledge and confidence eased my worries and gave me a fresh outlook. He knew exactly how to present my case to the Judge in order to win. Tony is straightforward and gets right to the point. Don't mess around with anyone else, make Tony Ficek your very first step in this process!

Mr. Fick (Tony) was highly recommended by a relative that was represented by Tony. I too would highly recommend Tony and his firm. Initially, I didn’t know what to do or what to expect in filing my claim. Tony helped eliminate any stress I had. He was there for me every step of the way throughout the entire claim process. I am very thankful for having you on my side. You and your staff provided the utmost professionalism and excellent representation in helping me throughout the entire claim process.

I have worked with Fremstad Law since 2011. Both personally and professionally. They have our best interest at heart. They listen to our needs and concerns. They try to direct us to the least expensive solution to solve our needs. They are not just racking up time for a big bill. I've learned a lot from working with them. I'd highly recommend setting up a meeting for a free consult. Actions speak louder than words, let them earn your business the way they earned mine.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Fargo, North Dakota?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
