We have consulted Rachel on two different family matters and she was excellent in helping us navigate in a safe direction. Making suggestions and providing paths that we simply could not have gotten on our own. We would refer her to anyone.

I was in need of consultation on legalities and obligations regarding an elder care issue involving my 85-year old mother. After failing to get assistance from several other firms in the Cleveland area Rachel graciously consented to consult with me and was extremely helpful in providing answers to questions on hospitalization, Do-not-Resuscitate protocol, Power-of-Attorney documents, and various other questions concerning the rights and obligations of a child to a parent. I also discussed with her the liability issues that might arise when an elder person does not have the finances to cover medical bills. Rachel provided me with some much-needed direction in all of these areas. Thank you very much!

Do you want to be there for your loved one and to provide care and have energy? Well then you absolutely must have the Kabb law firm on your side. Rachel and her staff will treat you like family and will be a true advocate for you. The burden of the legal process of not knowing what to do, or “how to do” can be very exhausting and can drain you as a caregiver and you will not have the strength to take care of your loved one. I have used the kabb law firm for the second time and I am extremely pleased with their services that Rachel’s firm has provided. My advice from a caregiver for over 15 years is to go with the best in this industry and that’s the Kabb law firm they do a great job and they do it right! They are a law firm that really cares about their clients.

I was extremely impressed with the professionalism and efficiency of Rachel Kabb-Effron and her staff. We consulted Rachel following a medical diagnosis for my father, which would ultimately result in him needing long term care. She was able to provide my family with a comprehensive plan to ensure that his long term care needs would be met while protecting the estate. Both Rachel and the staff were very knowledgeable about the public benefits available, especially the VA benefits. The firm truly focused on the care of the clients and what is in their best interest.

As your loved one ages, you want the Kabb Law Firm on your side. It is difficult to quantify how much they can reduce your stress by acting as your advocate and gathering all the resources you need to care for an aging loved one. Our needs were simple. We wanted to estate plan and complete the important legal work that will enable my sister and I to make decisions if our mom is no longer able to. While completing this process, we also learned how engaging the Kabb Law Firm can give us peace of mind should we have to make life care planning decisions in the future. I highly recommend Rachel and her entire staff to assist with such an important endeavor. Eric

Jeff and team were exceedingly thorough. Jeff explained difficult concepts so that my wife and I could understand them without having a legal education. I was amazed at the time he spent with us answering our questions. He created a fairly complex will and trust for us quickly and at a surprisingly low cost. Jennifer (paralegal) spent hours with us, arranging documents, making requested changes and walking us through the trust “funding” and execution process. Jennifer was also very patient and extremely friendly. My wife and I would wholeheartedly recommend Jeffrey Berenholz to anyone.

We worked with Suzann Moskowitz on two trademark applications for our start-up and could not have been more pleased. Suzann is tremendously knowledgeable and offered a strategic lens throughout the process to help us make informed decisions and get to a desired outcome. She is also extremely kind, compassionate, and genuinely cares about her clients (not traits you commonly associate with attorneys). I cannot recommend Suzann enough!

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Beachwood, Ohio?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
