I was in a fight in millerburg at a race track. No lawyers wanted to take the case because of the jurisdiction it was in. I contacted a lawyer and he referenced mr haupt who called Me. Under Ohio law 2905.1 section B I had EVERY right to stand my ground and protect myself and anyone in my party from danger that had occurred I even teyed to defuse the situation before throwing the punch that ended the situation. Me and Mr haupt went back and fourth for months. I gave him evidence I was protecting the people. Video proof. Voice recording from the person i protected stating I was defending her. It should have been an open close case. Mr haupt basically told me I was pleading guilty and slid my final payment back to me in the lobby of the court before trial (I have my cousin as a witness to this). When we went in he didn’t even attempt to fight for me he let me take a guilty plea because we agreed on the probation terms that I could use my medical marijuanna card due to the accident that occurred because of the courts (I was ran over coming back to my town from having to check in) before I was even coherent enough to go to court a month after my brain injury I had to plead guilty to the offense. After being on probation for one year they are changing my originally agreed to terms and taking my medication away from me. I tryed to reach out for help and Mr haupt has yet to respond even tho he told me that day to contact him in 9 months and he would get my probation dropped. I would represent myself in court before I would hire him to do anything other then file a motion.

First off i want to start by saying I think Jim is the best defense Attorney in stark County hands down he's like a pit bull in the courtroom he leaves know Stones Unturned he's very thorough i was charged with a F3 burglary and a theft which is a misdemeanor this has took 8 months out of my life not to mention all the money that it has cost me and I haven't slept in 8 months so today I was found not guilty of all charges so to all that reads this review if you retain Jim as your attorney you can't go wrong it's the best decision that you could have ever made

Jim defended me in a sexual assault case that we won unanimously no debate. I was falsely accused. He is a good lawyer, he is patient with you, lets you give your opinion, has resourceful connections to assist you, a calm level headed person and fights for his clients. He keeps a tight defense as well, anything that can be used against you possibly he makes sure he doesn’t use it. If the state is trying to beat him they will really have to EARN it, he isn’t gonna give them ANYTHING. The best thing is he tells you the absolute truth. He doesn’t just tell you “you’re gonna win the case” just to get your money just like most lawyers do. He lets you know what you’re facing and tells you he is gonna put in effort. He is careful with his words and doesn’t try to make promises he can’t keep. Jim gave me a free consultation and even gave me some immediate advice before I even hired him that helped me beat my case in my opinion. If I wouldn’t have listened to his advice I would’ve probably lost my case because no matter if you’re innocent or not the police don’t care, they just want an conviction. He catches details that many may gloss over to help you. I had many people testify against me and he made all of them look like fools. Police and detectives included. He also is liked by alot of people in the courthouse which MATTERS ALOT. To everyone Anybody dissatisfied with his communication, his communication method is more old school, its best to text him asking what time is best to meet or when you can call than to text him about small things. He’ll remember whatever you text when you talk though.

He was passionate, knowledgeable, on time, and very helpful. James had managed to really help my fiance, I would highly recommend James to anyone looking for a great attorney. I had Christina handle a landlord-tenant matter for me and also a similar matter for my wife, and in both cases she provided exceptional, responsive service. She learns the cases quickly, asks the pertinent "trigger" questions, and responds professionally to let the opposing party know that she means business and expects results. She is efficient and knowledgeable, not one of the locals who drag cases on and may be chummy with their opposition outside of the trial. A refreshing change; highly recommended.

I was in need of an attorney for personal reasons. I didn't even know where to start searching, so I looked on the yellow pages app on my phone and out of the attorneys to choose from I chose Christina Bollman's name. I couldn't have made a better decision. Through it all, Christina Bollman has been my attorney and best friend. Christina isn't your typical attorney, and that's what I liked about her the most. I couldn't have had a better attorney.

Jeff assisted us with a major environmental compliance issue. He handled the issue for us in the most professional manner. He was able to reduce our fine by over 75 percent and our exposure by an incalculable amount. Because of him, we now have a great working relationship with our regulators. Jeff not only impressed us with his breadth of knowledge but also the regulators. We would recommend him highly to anyone in need of legal assistance.

Ryan was great, he really did a great job of making me feel comfortable. I had always heard from others that working with lawyers was intimidating. I did not find that to be the case at all! Ryan never once made me feel silly about asking questions. He would take time to explain things to me in a way I could easily understand. I would definitely recommend Ryan and his firm to others!

Mr. Kuchmaner is our primary attorney and has handled a wide range of things for us. He helped us negotiate some tough contracts in our commercial real estate business. In one project he helped us negotiate a purchase contract where environmental clean up was required. In another he went in front of city hall and successfully got them to vote to rezone our property. He has done numerous other projects for us in different areas of business. He has always been fast and reliable - and he really does top quality work. I would definitely recommend him to anyone!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Canton, Ohio?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
