I met with other attorneys seeking legal representation to obtain full custody of my daughter. They didn't seem professional or as if they would be very devoted to my case or the delicate nuances typically found in custody battles. When I met with Marisa I knew she was the one I wanted representing me because she was extremely professional and confident. She explained several different avenues we could walk through and provided a plan of action that was extremely specific to my situation. When other issues regarding my case came up she made sure to maintain a reasuring demeanor and maintained communication until problems were resolved and went above and beyond at times when dealing with the mother of my child (who was very difficult to deal with). I would and will recommend Marisa to anyone. Thanks to Marisa I now have full custody of my daughter.

Here’s the revised version with that detail included: "As a single father, I hired Marissa to represent me in a custody case, and I couldn’t have asked for a better attorney. Thanks to her expertise and dedication, I won my case. From day one, she was incredibly organized, ensuring every document was professionally formatted and error-free, especially compared to the opposing side. Marissa’s compassion and understanding made an emotionally challenging process much more manageable. In the courtroom, she was assertive, persuasive, and fought for my case with confidence. She was always available—no matter the time or day—and kept communication clear and consistent. I appreciated her transparency, as she laid out all my options and guided me toward the best strategy to win. I can’t imagine going through such a difficult time without her on my side."

Highly recommend! Marisa Moore Apel successfully represented my interests in a complicated divorce case, exceeding my expectations. Throughout the year-long process, she demonstrated professionalism, attention to detail, and emotional empathy. Professionalism - Marisa is a great representative in court. She's calm and assertive and developed a good relationship with the opposing attorney and court employees. I was comfortable having her represent me in front of judges. I also thought she was assertive, yet poised with the opposing attorney. Attention to detail - Marisa is highly organized and attentive to details. She had clearly reviewed all the items I submitted and was an attentive listener. She took good notes and was able to reference them when referring to certain topics. When in court, she was able to quickly access items we needed, showing a familiarity with the case that could only have come from studious preparation. Emotional empathy - Marisa immediately put me at ease and made me feel cared about, without overstepping the bounds of the attorney/client relationship. I truly felt that she had listened to and then fought for my interests. Divorce and other family matters can be incredibly difficult and emotional, and my case was no exception. I felt listened to, believed, and cared about in a way that exceeded my expectations. Marisa Moore Apel made the divorce process positive, as a whole. I strongly recommend her and her firm.

A late review but he help me win my social security disability hearing appeal back in 2021. I had the most difficult judge ever with a very low approval rate. He listens to your issues and concerns. He helped presented a good case for me during my hearing and won my case.

Daniel is a charismatic, smart, diligent, knowledgeable, and hard working attorney. When Daniel speaks, people listen; he doesn't mince words, and knows the right things to say and when to say it to win your case. Additionally, Daniel is very understanding and compassionate to what his clients are really going through, and actually listens. He is not the type of attorney that pushes you off to work with a paralegal, Daniel personally works closely one-on-one with his clients. He was able to navigate the ins and outs of my case, with my very rare and hard to understand disease, to successfully winning my case. Daniel is truly an amazing attorney, and he has all the traits, charastics, and skills you could possibly want from an attorney. Trust that you will not be disappointed if you decide to hire Daniel to represent you!

  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Cincinnati, Ohio?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
