Jonathan is incredibly knowledgeable and we'll versed legally. He is by far the best lawyer I have ever dealt with and there have been quite a few. He is not my favorite because he is nice. I have been upset with him more than once. This was because he was honest with me and I was unhappy with what he was telling me. Jonathan is fair and honest. Finding that in a lawyer is rare.

I have frankly not had good experiences with lawyers in the past. Jonathan is the exception to the rule. He worked with me on a custody case that could have been prolonged, painful and expensive. Yet his depth of knowledge, breadth of experience and strategic thinking led to an outcome that was as optimal as I could have hoped for and quickly brought to a conclusion. And, on top of that, he is one of the most ethical people I have met. *Gasp* - yes, I did put those two things together: 'ethical' and 'lawyer'. I highly recommend him and am thankful he was recommended to me.

I have worked with small firms and large firms in my professional carer and I wouldn't give many a positive review. Jonathan is one of the exceptions. Mr Smith guided me through a process with advice that saved me a lot of time and money. He put it in prospective and outlined potential outcomes in layman terms. We got the job done quick and without pain. He is man of reason and integrity that I would highly recommended to anyone seeking legal advice. He might even change my opinion on lawyers.

I recently retained Jonathan for the second time. He represented me the first time for my divorce and in my opinion was flawless! He also represented my daughter for several traffic violations and she walked away with just a fine. So now, yet again, I needed to find legal representation and the first and only person I thought about was Jonathan. When I called him, he was eager and willing to help yet again. He is the most honest, humble and knowledgeable attorney I know. I respect his professionalism and excellent follow up. This current situation has been very stressful and knowing that I have him as my legal counsel, has relieved my stress. Having a demanding career and other obligations, it's just one less thing for me to worry about. Again, thank you, thank, you, thank you Jonathan!

In my journeys I ran acroos this site. Mr. Smith has represented me as a DR lawyer for several years now. He is thoughtful, ethical, knowledgable, and empathetic to my situations and needs as his client. He has given be honest input to my case, not always to my liking, but honest. I've always came to realize his advise was correct. Mr. Smith has demonstrated excellence in his research & preparation. He has demonstrated a willingness and ability to mediate to avoid going to trial. Although not always succesful based on an unwillingness from the other parties involved, Mr. Smith has demonstrated an ability to follow through with his promises to give his best effort in achieving success in my case. Observing Mr. Smith in the court room was an extreme pleasure. Although suffering from being ill at the time, Mr. Smith demonstrated empathy for all parties in the room, although switching to overt tenacity against the advercary when the opportunity was needed. Needless to say, Mr. Smith was a catalyst in triumphing against the other side, despite their extremely high priced and well respected lawyer. Despite the out come of the court hearings, I would still have the utmost respect, admiration, and current comments regarding Mr. Smith. He took my case ALMOST Pro-Bono, giving me adequate time to reimburse him for fees attained during our adventure. I must include that working for local government, I am involved in court procedings on a regular basis and rarely see a lawyer with these positive qualities.

A late review but he help me win my social security disability hearing appeal back in 2021. I had the most difficult judge ever with a very low approval rate. He listens to your issues and concerns. He helped presented a good case for me during my hearing and won my case.

Daniel is a charismatic, smart, diligent, knowledgeable, and hard working attorney. When Daniel speaks, people listen; he doesn't mince words, and knows the right things to say and when to say it to win your case. Additionally, Daniel is very understanding and compassionate to what his clients are really going through, and actually listens. He is not the type of attorney that pushes you off to work with a paralegal, Daniel personally works closely one-on-one with his clients. He was able to navigate the ins and outs of my case, with my very rare and hard to understand disease, to successfully winning my case. Daniel is truly an amazing attorney, and he has all the traits, charastics, and skills you could possibly want from an attorney. Trust that you will not be disappointed if you decide to hire Daniel to represent you!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Cincinnati, Ohio?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
