Christian Patno was my attorney in a wrongful death suit settled in Nov 2018. My dear brother, age 50, was fatally injured in a June 2012 workplace accident in Willoughby Ohio. My family and I were absolutely devastated! The case was appealed several times, all the way to the Ohio Supreme Court. At each step of the process and over a long period of time, Chris Patno did a phenomenal job and my families position was upheld. Throughout the entire process, Chris was an aggressive advocate for me, always available to answer questions and explain everything that was happening. The process was completely foreign to me, but Chris made me feel at ease and was always so kind and gracious answering any/all questions I threw his way. Chris Patno is extremely knowledgeable, reliable, professional and a fierce advocate. I’m so glad he was on our side. Thank YOU Chris! You’re the best!

Chris Patno ("Patno") is a great trial lawyer! Great trial lawyers like Patno are a rarity. They are the fighter pilots or trauma surgeons of the law. Try as they might, most lawyers are just not that impressive in a Courtroom. Patno is a notable exception. He has all the necessary brilliance and skill required of a great trial lawyer--he commands attention, is believable, and is truly a master in the courtroom. Patno is organized and prepared. He makes a game plan and sticks to it. His focus is on proving the essential elements of the case while at the same time steering clear of the sideshows and distractions that have the potential to distract the jury and tank a decent case. He has a great poker face and if the other side makes a point you'd certainly never get that from watching him. He comes across before a jury exactly as he is--passionate and eloquent, prepared, organized, effective and trustworthy. Watching him at trial is like a primer on how to do it right--know the evidence--inside out; respect the jurors’ time-- prove your points and move on; stay in the box--don't take cheap shots; manage the difficult witness on cross, but don't be a bully. I'm a physician and attorney and therefore an extremely tough client to represent in a malpractice case. Yet, he did it brilliantly with finesse. For me, the great trial lawyering part of it is a lawyer's ability to deliver the counterpunches of cross-examination, redirect examination, and rebuttal argument, where frequently the most significant pieces cannot be plotted out in advance. Patno can bob and weave with the best of them! As I waited for the jury's favorable verdict in my case, I did so knowing with certainty that Patno had put on the best possible case under the circumstances and represented my interests in a way that, win or lose, I felt vindicated.

Working with Chris was great. He explained everything very clearly - straight forward and to the point. Took me through my options, good and bad, and helped me come to a good resolution. Through his negotiation with the insurance company, he was very personable and kind, but also firm and fair.

Alex and his firm came highly recommended to my fiancé and I. Despite the glowing recommendations, in addition to Alex, we met with other immigration attorneys, before making official what we knew after meeting Alex — that he was our guy. As a practicing attorney, I had a very good idea as to how the relationship should proceed. Alex exceeded our expectations. Not only was his work-product excellent, he was communicative and accesible to answer our questions. Because of our time-zone difference (15 hours) Alex schedule telephonic and zoom calls at odd hours to accommodate us. Whenever documents were delivered to his office, he’d call us to explain the communication, sometimes before we even opened it. When it came time for our interview, Alex put us at ease with his calm demeanor as he laid out for us, step-by-step, what we should expect. It also helped that immigration officers knew Alex by name and had an expectation that his files would already be in order. At a time when hugs weren’t freely given or accepted, my wife and I - eternally grateful for his efforts - gave Alex a hug for helping our family in very uncertain times.

Attorney Cuic was my immigration lawyer for a span of over 5 years. In this time he was always very welcoming, honest, thorough, diligent and direct.... He always reviewed all my options with me and always continued to advocate for me even when my status became more complicated. I was very lucky to have him by my side through this whole process, and couldn't have asked for anyone better.

I attended a church function in Parma Ohio when I saw an advertisement for brown immigration wrote the number down and several months later I contacted the firm an appointment was made and met with attorney Aleksandar Cuic regarding my naturalization process I had some concerns regarding my eligibility to become a U.S citizen after a brief meeting at their office at the downtown Cleveland location attorney Cuic assured me that I would have no issue being naturalized after a delay due to the pandemic and further review from the immigration officials I became concerned to say the least . I contacted attorney Cuic and he and his case manager once again assured me that this was a normal process they worked diligently throughout this entire process at all times putting me at ease .. I since have been naturalized and couldn’t be more satisfied with the team at Brown Immigration I would recommend this firm to anyone needing assistance regarding Immigration concerns and I am grateful to Attorney Cuic and his entire staff ..Steve G Parma Ohio ...

Andrew and his team are first class attorney's. I have hired them to represent me, and I couldn't be more pleased with the counsel they have provided. They have been thorough, empathetic, and have represented my best interests in what has been the most difficult time in my life. Andrew won't tell me what I want to hear. He gives me facts, his opinion, and options to consider. He likes to think "outside the box" to achieve the goals I have. He emphasizes that I am always in control of the strategy. He and his team make you feel as if you are the firm's only client. He works and fights exceptionally hard for his clients. If he can't help you, he'll tell you on the first meeting. He's that kind of person. I would hire him and his team again in a New York minute. You are in good hands with Andrew.

Andrew Zashin was highly recommended, and he is the best in the field. I found Andrew to be a no nonsense, straight to the point attorney. He listens intently to every word while he is focused and very clever, having the ability to make everyone feel comfortable. One consultation with Andrew I was at ease knowing, 100%, he knew the law and had the answers. His response time to emails and phone calls is without question lightning speed, while his knowledge of the law is impeccable. Mr. Andrew Zashin has a FIVE-STAR rating for a reason!

Since my collaborative process has been a disaster, I contacted Andrew as a litigation resource and potential attorney. Unlike his reputation as a “pit-bull” and getting results, Andrew could not have been kinder, compassionate and intelligent during his conversation with me. He has immense knowledge and experience and directed me in a very straightforward manner. I left the meeting with increased knowledge and empowerment.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Cleveland, Ohio?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
