I retained Brad Koffel and was very happy with the professionalism, responsiveness and overall representation I received. Brad is well respected and takes a vested interest in providing the best representation for his clients. Brad has many years of experience, knows many of the judges in and around central Ohio and is very transparent with his advice. Brad took time to get to know me on a personal level which helped shape his advice and representation. The entire staff at Koffel | Bringer | Nesbitt was very responsive, professional and I highly recommend Brad and the team for legal representation.

I couldn't have asked for a better lawyer to represent me than Atty. Brad Koffel. The criminal case brought against me threatened not only my livelihood but the future of my business. As someone who has never had to deal with the law, being charged with a misdemeanor was extremely stressful and nerve-racking. Brad was the perfect counselor and guide in navigating a process that was both highly intimidating and unfamiliar. He put together a team to help with my case and, in hindsight, knew exactly what to do each step of the way— including when, why, and how to engage with the judge and prosecutor. The legal strategy he devised on my case and his ability to see what’s coming ahead— and more importantly what’s around the corner— to develop and execute the appropriate response was simply invaluable. He’s very careful in his choice of words and he writes with brevity, clarity, and power making the legal arguments he was presenting on my behalf so effective. In the end, Atty. Brad Koffel got my case dismissed without going to trial which was the best possible outcome for me, a result I couldn’t possibly have expected at the beginning of this horrific journey. I owe it to Brad and his depth of experience, intimate knowledge of the criminal court and the players in it, his courage and integrity in fighting for justice and the truth, and his unwavering dedication to clients like myself that I finally have my life back. You simply cannot put a price or value on that, and so I will forever be indebted. You cannot ask for a better lawyer than Atty. Brad Koffel. He’s the best and you want him on your side fighting with and for you.

I hired The Koffel Law Firm to represent me after being falsely accused of felony theft by my employer. Brad was always honest and upfront with me about the legal process. He was compassionate and professional in all of our dealings. After sharing the evidence gathered by Rick (a Koffel investigator, also top notch) my case was dismissed. I didn’t even have to see the judge throughout the entire process. Brad and his team including Rick and Will are truly knowledgeable and among the best in their field. I highly reccomend The Koffel Law Firm.

Our son got in a very serious legal situation and Brad and Rick did everything they possibly could do for him! I'm so appreciative of them and highly recommend them to friends and family. Although we couldn'tafford him throughout our ordeal, they still tried to help with our public defender and that spoke volumes to our family. Go see them if in trouble, you won't regret it!

My family retained Mr. Koffel on a burglary charge after finding him online. We were very interested because Mr. Koffel lists on his website that he has received many awards for his practice of criminal defense and even claims to be the very best. My family has come to learn from our 2nd attorney that this attorney isn't really a good lawyer at all and has limited trial experience. In fact we could not find a single case in Franklin County in the last 5 years that Mr. Koffel went to trial on. How can he claim to be some great attorney when he does not conduct trials for his clients. I thought Mr. Koffels advertisements were misleading and my family thought he did not have our best interests at hand. I would never recommend this attorney and I think his website portrays him as an excellent attorney when in fact it appears as though he pleads all of his clients guilty.

Aaron Kenter is a professional, hard working, hard fighting, take-no-prisoners attorney that I have had the honor to represent me. I desperately needed help with my child custody case. My previous attorney screwed my case up something horrible, was weak, and not very experienced with contested custody cases, or tough opposing lawyers and magistrates. My previous attorney was a very, very nice guy..the HELL with that!!!!! I needed a lawyer who was smart, fearless, knowledgeable and experienced with the heart of a tiger shark! Aaron Kenter (and his supervisor Tony Greco) are textbook definitions of a phenomenal, dedicated attorneys who get the job done! Because of these two gentlemen... They won my case, I have my son, I have peace of mind. and they taught my ex a lesson she will never forget! If you ever need lawyers who will fight like hell on your side, make you laugh when you think there is no hope in the world of you winning, and have a long proven track record of winning tough cases... look no further then this very talented attorney! Thank you so much Aaron for all your hard work and phenomenal expertise!

Our case came at a time when we were looking for answers for the best way to handle a less than supportive environment for my daughter. This office and Aaron in particular was honest with us about our case. He supported me through a difficult time and showed me direction when I needed it. He was always available day or night to help, Aaron is an extremely knowledgeable and experienced attorney in all areas of the domestic/family law area. In a practice area that can be very emotional and antagonistic, Aaron remains calm with his effective focus on the factual and legal issues. Aaron remains very caring about his clients and is a professionally relentless advocate on their behalf. I could not have gotten through this without him and his determination.

I have had the pleasure of having Alex twice. Once for my gf for a DUI. He let us know what was going on through the whole thing. Helped get her license back ASAP. He got all other charges dismissed. Then I had to use him for my case driving under suspension. He helped me get driving priveldges then got all other charges dismissed. And only chsrged with no operator license. Very small fine. My gf and I are very pleased with him and would recommend him to everybody we know. His fees are reasonable and he will work with on them. He answers calls and texts within the hour.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Columbus, Ohio?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
