On a recent trip to Ohio, I was charged with an OVI along with 2 other traffic violations. With this being said, I knew I would need to be very selective in choosing an attorney to represent me. After doing my due diligence, I called the law firm of Gounaris Abboud, LPA. I spoke with attorney Tony Abboud about my personal situation. What I quickly learned from my conversation with Tony is that he has the credentials and experience that I could trust. After I retained Tony as my personal lawyer, the very next day he filed all the necessary paperwork with the court. He explained to me that throughout the process he or his paralegal would always keep me updated every step of the way. Tony even called me to check in with me from time to time just to check on how I was doing. He truly cares about his clients and is someone who works tirelessly for his clients. I’m from Wisconsin and Tony was able to get court appearances waived saving me additional time and travel expense. Moreover, Tony’s paralegal (Emily Smith) was absolutely outstanding in every way. When she would send something to me in the mail, she would call me to make sure I received it to insure nothing would fall through the cracks. Although this may seem simple – it’s also critical. In the end, Tony was able to get the prosecutor to dismiss the OVI violation along with another traffic citation. I just plead guilty to a minor “turn signal” violation. With this being said, I would highly recommend Attorney Abboud to anyone who finds themselves in need of legal advice or legal representation. He is simply the best!! Should you retain his services, you will find him to have masterful communication skills….plus Tony has an outstanding personality! It’s always easier to get favorable results when you are likeable ….correct? Everyone of the above attributes is essential! Hire another attorney who is skilled in the law but is lacking in communication skills or simply not likeable … in my opinion, the odds for a non-favorable disposition becomes more likely! At least, that’s my personal perspective! So in the end, I am most grateful for the services of Tony Abboud and Emily Smith. And now I know why the law firm of Gounaris and Abboud are the recipients of many awards! Thanks Again!

After giving Tony a call, he picked up my case in under an hour. I knew I needed help and there was no question of my guilt, but very few people could have done what Tony did. His empathy and integrity are rare qualities to find in a person, and it makes him a very easy attorney to talk to and work with. I was facing 9 years behind bars, but he managed to facilitate a plea deal that resulted in only four months of incarceration. It was unheard of. His affordable rates are worth every penny and a whole lot more. I've witnessed how prison can destroy the good in a person, but Tony won't let that happen to his clients. If I had stuck with a public defender, my life would not be the same. Thank you, Mr. Abboud, for helping me get a second chance.

While searching for legal representation for our incarcerated son, we found Mr. Abboud. He listened to us, and was very interested in helping our son. He went above and beyond the normal expectancy we had for an attorney. He showed great concern for, and confidence in our son. He fought very hard on our son's behave, which paid off, because our son was granted his early release from prison even after the Judge had originally said "No"...thanks to Mr. Abboud. Thank you Mr. Abboud for believing in our son, and doing the work you do so amazingly well. We will recommend everyone who needs an attorney to contact you for their needs.

As I sit her to write this review, tears run down my face. Antony Abboud has restored my faith in Attorneys. My son was released two years early because Antony questioned the judges ruling on not letting my son out on judicial release. Antony's integrity, professionalizem ,compassion and care for his clients is guanine. My son deserved to be released based on his growth, maturity and accomplishments while incarcerated. When the Judge ruled no without even reading his file, Antony knew something was wrong. He set an appointment with the judge and requested that the ruling be considered. When the meeting was over the Judge agreed to release my son. FIVE STARS IS NOT ENOUGH !!!! If it wasn't for his Integrity, heart for fairness and genuine concern for my son, my son would still be incarcerated. On Monday 2/5/18 Antony invited our family to his office to talk with us. He encouraged my son to keep doing well. He told him that it was his amazing record while incarcerated that spoke to the judge. If it wasn't for Antony the file would have NEVER been read! My son was released on January 30,2018. I beg you to use Antony for all of your Criminal Defense needs, you won't be sorry that you did. Our family is back together because of him. Words alone can't even express our gratitude. Thank you Antony.

Absolutely a fantastic attorney. She is handling my case right now and I have been OVERLY pleased with her responsiveness. There have been a few times she did not get back to me quickly (less than 24 hours); however, those were due to family emergencies...which I think is totally acceptable.

Tom is an exceptional attorney. I never ever thought I would have to file bankruptcy, and I was devastated, however, Tom made the entire process smooth and he answered every question we had. He is extremely compassionate about his firm and his customers. He did not treat us like we were nobodies, instead he understood how difficult a decision this was for us and guided us every step of the way. I cannot say enough good things about him. I would highly recommend him.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Dayton, Ohio?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
