I was being discriminated against at work and spoke with Emily about my case. I had been offered a paltry severance after I complained about my manager’s behavior. I had documented evidence that wrong doing had taken place and that my employer had done nothing to protect my legal rights. Emily negotiated a much better separation agreement and helped to protect my rights in the process. She is a wonderful attorney and will definitely deliver when representing her clients. She is thorough and a real straight shooter. If you are in a position of needing legal representation during what must be a stressful time and difficult situation, Emily is the person that can get the job done. I very highly recommend her and could not imagine selecting a better attorney. Thank you Emily for protecting my legal rights.

I cannot thank Emily enough for everything she accomplished for me regarding my unlawful dismissal. Her knowledge and expertise combined with her understanding of this difficult time in my life, helped me regain my equilibrium and trusting her implicitly. Over the course of my case, she engaged me in regular communication and feed-back. Needless to say, that she resolved my case much to my satisfaction and will remain my preferred employment lawyer should I ever need one again.

I contacted Emily Lewis for advice about an employment matter. She offered lots of practical advice. Her communication was excellent. She answered my questions and calls quickly and was very kind as well as professional. I didn't feel like she was running up the bill and in fact, her charges were really reasonable. I would recommend her to friends or family members.

Emily is the best lawyer I have ever had. She was patient and understanding with me, but very aggressive in pursuing my claim against a large company. Emily got me a good settlement at a reasonable cost.

I would rate Sam Shihab and his firm Shihab Burke LLC amongst top 5% of the experienced immigration attorneys. They are at par or better than Shiela Muthy attorneys (for ppl who know what I am talking about) when it comes to dealing with complex immigration cases across family and employment categories. Sam helped us at various points during our 10 yr GC journey with his wisdom, practical advice and interpretation of immigration laws. He helped me start my Consulting LLC while on EAD, helped navigate endless issues due to USCIS bureaucracy, etc. They are aggressive attorney’s who put themselves in your shoes and offer practical actionable advice. Their YouTube channel is a gem in itself.

I contacted Karl within days of the hearing. Karl, on his free consultation, listened to my position and then did some research on my case. Karl then contacted me and offered to represent me within less then 4 days. Completely prepared with legal arguments and precedent and alternative plans of action. Subsequent to the hearing Karl kept me informed as to what was going on legally and also what to prepare for with possible actions. I would highly recommend Karl and vouch for him. My daughter is also an attorney, not licensed in the state of my situation, and she reviewed his game plan and gave Karl an A plus for his work. Well done Karl and we will never stop recommending you. John

Karl is an exceptionally thorough and knowledgable lawyer with a great ability to connect to his clients. Not only was Karl always able and willing to explain the intricacies of my matter in detail, but he was extremely eager to continue answering any questions I may have had until he was certain that I was up to speed. I cannot overstate Karl's ability to keep me well-informed and at ease with the oft confusing legal landscape. I would certainly recommend Mr. Snyder to anyone I know who is looking for a lawyer in Consumer Protection.

Braden was one of the best attorneys that I have ever dealt with. My personal injury situation was handled promptly, professionally and for a very reasonable amount of compensation. He came to my place when it was needed and I was in pain, was courteous and attentive as if he was an attending physician for a moment. Braden had numerous negotiations with the other party which resulted in a complete success! Thanks again Braden.

  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Dublin, Ohio?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
