Ian and Tony helped fight a criminal case for my boyfriend. The level of professionalism and dedication they had to his case was remarkable. They successfully won the first ever trial held at Juvenile courts in Greene County and hands down did so by fighting for what they knew was right, his rights and his name. Might I add, they had no witnesses to speak on his behalf, just the defense counsel and their amazing teamwork and knowledge. A huge thank you to both of you for your time and excellent execution of a not guilty verdict!

I was rear-ended in front of my workplace by a hit-and-run driver and my car was totalled. The police werent going to assign blame in the accident, so I contacted CMW law firm immediately, and Tony came out and took pictures of the damage and talked to the police for me. He was able to find footage of the other driver and get my medical bills, pain and suffering, and my car paid for. I didn't have to pay anything until I got the extra money for pain and suffering. He talked me through each step of the process, and handled talking to the insurance agents for me. His rates are incredibly reasonable and he is easy to reach.

I've used Mark 2 times: Once for trial and once for being illegally violated on a probation violation. The probation violation was dropped that very day. He won the best for both. I would highly recommend Mark.

Mr Babb was honest and didn’t promise anything he couldn’t deliver and made sure I understood what was a reasonable outcome. His fee was reasonable. He always communicated and made sure I understood what was going on and worked with me via phone because I was coming in from out of state. Fortunately, the outcome was amazing and I would absolutely call him if I ever find myself in need of a criminal attorney in the Springfield area again but I sincerely hope I never do. Thank god for Mr. Babb.

Mark Babbs is more than just an attorney—he is a true advocate, a compassionate listener, and someone who saved my life in ways I never thought possible. Mark stood by my side during one of the darkest chapters of my life, advocating for me as I sought justice after over a year of sexual abuse by a mentor I had trusted. This person had appeared to offer me love and support, especially after my cousin abused me in a similar way months earlier. My mentor knew about that abuse and used it to manipulate me, pretending to be my refuge while exploiting my vulnerability for his own pleasure. At the time, my world had already crumbled. My parents divorced, leaving me homeless, sleeping in a cold, crammed car with my knees tucked to my chest. My mentor invited me into his home, and my mom, desperate for me to be happy, dropped me off in the middle of the night, hoping this could somehow be a fresh start. She had a crush on him, unaware I was being threatened in silence, and forced to pretend everything was fine. For years, I lived in fear, numbing myself and running from the truth. Mark was the first person who truly noticed my pain and stood by me, even when I didn’t have the strength to keep fighting. His presence gave me the courage to face what I had denied for so long. He helped me seek justice, not just legally but emotionally, and he gave me the strength to keep going when everything felt too heavy to bear. Mark’s compassion and respect for me, even in my darkest moments, have changed my life. He helped me write my victim impact statement, sitting with me through the most difficult emotions I’ve ever had to face. His belief in me gave me the courage to speak my truth and begin to heal. Though I still struggle and the weight of it all fluctuates, knowing there are people like Mark fighting alongside me makes it less heavy. I am forever grateful for his care, his advocacy, and his relentless pursuit of justice on my behalf. Mark showed me what it means to be loved and respected unconditionally, and I will never forget the role he played in my journey. If you’re looking for an attorney who doesn’t just fight for you but truly fights with you, Mark Babbs is that person. He saved my life, and I will always hold deep gratitude and love for him.

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the expected timeline for my case?

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Fairborn, Ohio?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
