Divorce is extremely stressful. Caring and empathetic are not the usual words used to describe lawyers, but Camille is. Wonderful at strategy,Camille knows the law and what part of it to argue in court. She cuts to the heart of the matter and doesn't waste your time on unimportant issues just to drag out your case. She is able to disseminate what part of your case is really an emotional issue and should not be argued in court.Unlike other lawyers, she is very available, does not take your case and disappear, nor will she hand you off to an underling. She will not promise you the world either, only what she honestly believes is feasible and just, and in the best interest of any children involved.Having acted as a law guardian herself, she is well aware of those parameters. Camille is well received and liked by all in the court system, even her adversaries. She accomplishes this by being articulate, unfailingly positive, compassionate and considerate to everyone involved. I highly recommend her!

My husband and I had been attempting to adopt a baby for several years. At the time I met Camille, we were about half way through the process of adopting a baby girl from China. During our conversation I mentioned this to her as just part of the conversation we were having. Amazingly, she remembered our talk and called me about 18 months later when she became aware of a birth mother who wanted to do a private adoption. We were no further along in our foreign adoption and were thrilled to have been given this opportunity. Camille represented us through the entire adoption and made it a wonderful experience. She arranged our tour at the hospital and a room to stay in after our son was born. She had worked frequently with the adoption assessor she chose for our home study which made the process even easier. We will be forever grateful to Camille for providing us with the greatest joy of our lives.

Our family can't thank Camille enough for all she has done for us over the years. We had successfully used her services on several matters and then one night my son was involved in an auto accident that involved a drunk driver. Knowing that Camille was a nurse, I called her from the Emergency Department at the hospital our son was taken to. She was familiar with the staff there and made a telephone call to insure that we received individualized treatment until our son was sent by Life Flight to a trauma center. She came to the trauma center several times to visit with us and then represented our son in his personal injury case against the driver. She obtained a settlement that was three times what anyone else told us we would get! Our son is fully recovered now and using a portion of his settlement to attend nursing school. I don't know of any other lawyer who can provide the service that Camille does.

I wasn't sure who to turn to recently when my ex attempted to terminate my parental rights after I was forced to move to California for my job. Being out of state and trying to find an attorney that I could trust back in Ohio was very difficult. I was referred to Camille by a friend of mine who raved about her. Camille was a Godsend! I showed up at her office the week before court with a heap of court documents that I couldn't make any sense of and in no time Camille and her staff made me feel as if they had been with my case all along. Camille didn't promise me the world nor did she sugarcoat the situation. She was honest and said we are facing a uphill battle due to my moving without notice to my ex. What she did promise me was that she would fight for my rights as a mother who dearly loves her children. She worked with me one on one to prepare my response to the court and when my court date came I walked out of court with all my visitation rights in tact and more! Facing the possibility of not being with my children was one of the darkest moments in my life and Camille and her staff were like a beacon of hope guiding me through a very confusing process. As a mother herself Camille knew how much my children meant to me and I will be forever grateful to her for all her help.

Long story short I had neglected to pay a speeding ticket and without my knowledge was driving around on a suspended license. So one day I get pulled over and the officer asked me whether or not I knew my license was suspended and of course I said no at which point I was ticketed not only for speeding but for driving under a suspended license! Not long before this a close friend of mine had faced a very similar situation and so I asked him if he would refer me to his lawyer and he gave me Ms. Baker's contact info. She got back with me right away and met with me to discuss the case and advised me on how we should proceed. I was facing the possible suspension of my license for a year or more which would have also cost me my job! On my court date when I arrived at the court house Ms. Baker was already there and told me she had already spoken to the prosecutor and explained my situation regarding my oversight in paying the original ticket and got the prosecutor to DROP the driving under a suspended license charge entirely and so all I had to pay was the two speeding tickets and court costs! I didn't even have to go in front of the judge, just pay my fines and i walked out with the entire mess behind me. I was facing the possibility of loosing my license, my job, and who knows what else had it not been for Ms. Baker. I can't thank her enough.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Greenville, Ohio?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
