I needed a personal injury attorney after I was involved in a car accident in Hamilton County, Ohio. When my first attorney took a job with the County and could no longer represent me in court, he recommended The Richards Firm and Rhys Richards. Hiring Rhys was a great decision—the transition was seamless. He quickly got up to speed on my case and helped me achieve the resolution I deserved. Throughout the process, I felt informed and at ease, knowing my case was in competent hands. I highly recommend The Richards Firm for personal injury cases!

My daughter and I were in an automobile accident in October of 2020 in Fairfield ,Ohio and my daughter had some injuries. I reached out to Rhys Richards at The Richards Firm for legal advice on protecting my daughter and myself from overwhelming medical bills. Rhys Richards did not disappoint he filed suit and protected my daughter’s medical rights and mine as well. Rhys was very professional, prompt, and even gave us his cell number. The settlement that Rhys obtained for my daughter exceeded our expectations! Rhys Richard’s has been a continued Sponsor and Supporter of Christians Corn Stand Jam a charity I run and I see Rhys providing Students College scholarships in our community. That goes a long way with me if you have an injury please give The Richards Firm a call and ask for Rhys Richards Sincerely James Unger

I was involved in an auto accident in SouthWesternOhio and was in need of a good attorney. Rhys was far more than a “good” attorney . Rhys proved to be an OUTSTANDING attorney. He displayed a sincere desire to help resolve my issue from the beginning to the end. When the insurance company low balled me Rhys filed suit in my behalf resulting in my receiving the compensation I deserved. I highly recommend Rhys. He embodies the trust, dependability, tenacity and sincere desire to bring a favorable outcome to the legal process. Thank you Rhys Richards. Excellent job!!

Rhys was professional from day one, while being completely understanding about my traumatic car accident. He helped walk us through each step to receiving the full settlement we deserved. His integrity and overall concern for our well-being was a breath of fresh air. I would highly recommend him to anyone, as he was our ally through the last year! I'm sure we'll be using him in the future.

'Honorable Attorney' Two words usually not used in the same sentence - Mr Shanks really excels at what he does and does so with integrity and efficiency! His experience and knowledge of the law really stands out when speaking with him. His judgement proved superb and very well-spoken, which is always an important quality in an Attorney. I will absolutely recommend Mr. Shanks to anyone I know in the future. The outcome was way better than I could've imagined. Much respect! Thanks again!

He definitely knows what he's doing! I made a plea deal to combine my two felony charges into one, so I was being convicted of a felony 3 which is a minimum of 3-5 years in prison. Judge Pater is one of the toughest and Mr. Shanks said he ALWAYS gives people their prison time, but thanks to Mr. Shanks closing statement about how I have always been an upstanding citizen and I just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time (truth), Judge Pater only gave me 3 years probation!! I give all the glory to God, but Mr. Shanks definitely did his job, and represented me better than I could've ever imagined. I highly recommend seeking his representation if you can afford it.

Chris has helped myself and many I know. With his knowledge of the law and his rapid response if you need him. He is the best lawyer I know. He's young, sharp and very fair to me. He showed up in court the moment I needed him after asking for him at the podium in front of the judge. I can't say enough about this outstanding lawyer. If you need him and you pay him. He will fight tooth n nail to do his best for your case. Your the man Chris. Todd Martin. He's A+ rating.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Hamilton, Ohio?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
