I need a refund for services not rendered. I was told constantly to give paperwork and records that I had already given them, the lawyer was rude and unhelpful. I need my money back.

Please don't give these people your money. I started services with them for a lawsuit against me. I was contacted by someone from their office claiming they could help me. They said i could pay them biweekly from my bank account, which i did. At no point did i ever receive any updates about my case. The only time i heard anything it was when they wanted to ask for more money. the court contacted me and I would have to contact amourgis and associates to only have them lie and ask for more money. Odly there was a court date set for the day i chose to end services with them and just found out about the court date and the judgement against me a week later. Do your research please before deciding to work with amougis and associates.

I was a defendent in a divorce case. My situation was not straightforward as I am not a US citizen. I was assigned to Attorney Vizmeg after initial consultation. At the outset, I found him quite frank and he clarified a lot of expectations at the first meeting. During follow ups, his status letters were especially helpful. One one hand, he is a seasoned attorney with exceptional professional demeanour; on the other, perhaps more importantly, he is a compassionate fellow being. He endowed with qualities such as veracity, spiritedness and, not the least, lightheartedness (if demanded by situation). I am thankful that I met him, worked with him and settled the matters. May all good things come your way.

Pros
1
Knowledgeable, experienced, and aggressive attorneys who provide excellent representation in the courtroom
“Oliver was extremely organized, experienced, prepared, and aggressive in the courtroom. He tells it like it is and I felt more confident with him representing me.”
2
Responsive and available attorneys who communicate effectively with clients
“Oliver went above and beyond. He quickly responded to emails and phone calls. The end result for my case could not have happened with my previous attorney — Oliver helped me know my rights.”
3
Attorneys who care about their clients and fight for their best interests
“Oliver was a horrible attorney. All he cared about was raking up $ by collecting all this information about the other party and then never used it when we went to court because it "wasn't trial" but then said the bill was too high and he couldn't represent me if we went to trial so I had to settle which ended up getting me screwed by getting 50/50 but then also having to pay MORE in child support than when she had the children full time. Never once did I feel like he fought for me or was there for me.”
4
Friendly, professional, and knowledgeable staff who provide excellent customer service
“The Lawyers was very nice straight to the point, I was given choices and explained in detail. 3 different Lawyers here all handle my case and was all on the same page I didn't have to explain my situation over. From the moment of walking through the door the first day I felt like they cared about helping me.”
5
Attorneys who take the time to explain the legal process and keep clients informed
“Oliver made sure I understood the whole process. I recommend him highly!”
Cons
1
Attorneys who prioritize earning fees over effectively representing their clients
“Never once did I feel like he fought for me or was there for me. All he cared and talked about was money. Would never recommend him to anyone.”
2
Lack of communication and responsiveness from the firm, with clients often feeling ignored or neglected
“All they do is take up your time and blame everything that is wrong on YOU!! Not them, They don't make any msitakes as they are a lawyer firm!!”
3
Inconsistency in the quality of representation, with some attorneys performing well while others provide poor service
“The original lawyer is no longer there so when I sat down with the new lawyer I had to redo everything all over again. I WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN!”
4
Delays and issues with the firm's administrative processes, such as in filing paperwork or responding to client inquiries
“Drag their feet!!! All they do is take up your time and blame everything that is wrong on YOU!! Not them, They don't make any msitakes as they are a lawyer firm!!”
5
Lack of transparency and communication about the status of client cases
“I haven't received any correspondence and this has been going on for almost 3 months now. I was still receiving phone calls and email from creditors because they weren't able to speak to anyone.”

Excellent services provided by lawyers and paralegals in this office. Particularly attorneys Michael Jolic and Stacy Cozart, and paralegal Magda Vleck. They worked with me throughout my case over the past 4 years and I could not be happier and more confident with any other service. Prompt service, consultation, and answers to all your concerns and questions. Very professional and dedicated. They provide you with details and needed instructions when you need to fill out forms, etc. I never had an issue with USCIS rejecting a form or denying an application that was sent to them. Got my J1 waiver approval and then green card processing with no issues. Highly recommend this office. Thank you for the unparalleled help and support during my immigration process.

Honest and fair. They actually weren’t able to help with my problem, but they were upfront about that before charging me a consultation fee. Won me over. Very responsive!

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the expected timeline for my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What challenges do you foresee in my case?
Understanding potential obstacles helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to resolve my legal issue?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Independence, Ohio?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
