My name is Susan. In 2013, a freak medical event necessitated that I file for bankruptcy. As an ICU nurse for 28 years prior to becoming disabled, I had been committed to a healthy lifestyle. I was a vegan for 30 years and thirty-five miles on my bike was my short ride, fifty miles, my long ride. I was physically, emotionally and financially hardy. I worked hard. As a divorced person without family who had preceded me to heaven, I was always independently able to weather any storm, until the bills piled up. I had never had money trouble and felt ashamed and embarrassed of my circumstances. Not only were Harold Jarnicki, his son Brent, and their associate Erin knowledgeable about the legal landscape of my predicament, they were patient and kind with me. They did not view me as I viewed myself at the time and were quietly just as skilled at guiding me through my own process of personal reorganization as they were in working with the law. I will never forget the day that my bankruptcy was complete. The whole process seemed so anti-climatic to all the chaos that preceded it. It was just “over” and on that day I began a new chapter.
