Chris Alexander was referred to me by a close friend. Chris is well versed in legal custody. He challenged me to understand that custody is NOT a power play between the wills of parents nor is it tolerated by the courts, but that it’s about knowing what you want to see happen and be able to explain & prove why it would foremost be in the best interest of my son. He also taught me that I must trust him to do his job which meant my hyper-vigilance was of no assistance to me nor how he needed to prepare for my custody case. My lack of knowledge of the law was the reason for my anxiety and I am sure overwhelming to my attorney. Chris never let that get to him nor in the way of executing the various phases of my case. At one point through our journey during one of my anxiety moments, he sat me down and said “maybe I am not the attorney for you”. Well, I considered it but could not find legitimate reasons to dismiss him. This challenged me to do a better job at trustIng him to do his job and that is what I did. It was important to the both of us to be on the same page as well as trust him to do his job well. I should have wrote this review awhile ago to share what an amazing family law attorney Chris was for me. Thank you Chris for challenging me to understand that not returning every call was not a sign of you not doing your job. The result of your representation for my custody case was me being awarded FULL Custody and Residential parent! Chris, You should drop the mic now! I should at least give you that or you should say “Kim, I told you so!”

On October the 12,2022 Attorney Kinman called me and told me he and Veterans Affairs Attorney had reached an agreement that I would receive an extra schedule award and that I should hear something within 30 days. I asked Attorney Kinman to send me a copy of their agreement, but I never heard or received anything from him or his associates after repeated phone calls. Around January the second of 2023 I received a letter from the Veteran Affairs. stating claim denied. I have no written evidence of what was said in the agreement to support what he told me.I feel cheated and deceived because Attorney Kinman did not fight for me and refused to contact me to this day. Will someone please help me find justice?

Andrea handled my contentious divorce and custody dispute. She knows the Warren County courts and system very well. After a lengthy battle, most matters were resolved in my favor. Her communication style is not particularly proactive, but I learned to trust that she knew what she was doing and leave her to her work.

Andrea turned a bad situation in to a great experience. She led me through every step of the process and gave me excellent advice along the way. I highly recommend her to anyone I know that might need her services. She looked out for me when I wasn't in the right mindset to look out for myself.

I hired Andrea for a complex divorce case with a business valuation of three separate businesses. She had a great connection for a financial expert and with her expertise and thoroughness she litigated the case and won in my favor. She was very knowledgeable and easy to get a long with. It was a very long case and she kept me on the right track to get it resolved.

Matt did everything he said he would do and more. This guy is a true professional and knows how to weave his way in and out of this very complicated journey. He is whip-smart, articulate, and he constantly stays in touch with you. If you are ever in need of a great attorney during this painstaking process, you will be doing yourself a great disservice if you do not reach out to Matt.

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Mason, Ohio?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
