Pros
1
Highly knowledgeable, experienced, and effective attorney who fights for the client's best interests
“Kim is amazing. I was going through the craziest custody battle for years! I went through so many lawyers that didn't do a whole lot for my case. When I say this case was crazy I mean it was mind blowing. 4 lawyers before and I was still fighting”
2
Responsive, communicative, and caring attorney who provides personalized attention
“Kimberly quickly gained my trust and proved that she is knowledgeable and a thoughtful lawyer that thinks about the whole case and not litigating the sake of making money. She asked thoughtful questions and really listened. She answered my questions. I would recommend her and will absolutely hire her.”
3
Achieves favorable outcomes and positive results for clients
“Ms. Baioni is knowledgeable, thorough and professional. My case had a favorable outcome and I am very pleased with the legal services she provided.”
Cons
1
Lack of effort and responsiveness from the attorney, leading to unsatisfactory outcomes
“I hired Ms. Baioni and she might as well have been hired by the defendant. She did nothing for me for months and then demanded more money from me. The defendant should've been held in contempt as she quit bringing my son to schedule visits even though they were court ordered and Ms. Baioni allowed this to happen and refused to do anything unless I pay her more money.”
2
High costs and fees that do not align with the level of service provided
“Do not hire this firm for any reason. I paid these guys over $5,000 when they promised me I had a case I could win. They dragged the case out for 2 years making me accumulate even more money owed for said case. Then they lost the case and didn't even try for a trial jury or session in front of a Judge. Not recommended. Do more research. Find someone different.”

Kim was very responsive and it seemed like she had my interests. She advised me to take the 5th during a restraining order hearing that resulted in a guilty vertict. She refused to fight it, telling me that they give them out like candy. I ran out of time (14 days) to object to it. Took it to Supreme Court and they rejected it due to not meeting the time line. Exwife filed multiple allegations that cost me over $12k to fight and not go to jail. Save you $ and find someone who knows what they are doing.

Of all the lawyers I have worked with over the years, Jim Reardon has by far the best communication skills of anyone in the legal profession. Before you can even think about the next steps he is communicating and following up. Not only is his communication excellent but his prices are extremely fair. If you want a lawyer that is going to keep you in the loop, every step of the way, then Jim is the lawyer for you.

In addition to being extremely understanding and empathetic concerning my issue, Larry went above and beyond for me. He was prompt in returning phone calls and e-mails, diligent in ensuring I was up to speed and knowledgeable about my matter, and very personable at every meeting. I was satisfied with the outcome of my case, and will be sure to recommend him should a friend or family member ever find herself in need of legal help. He was also conveniently located and willing to work around my schedule. I'd give Lawrence Peskin an A+.

Ken Abbanro is definitely the hardest working attorney i have ever come across. I came to him for help after my case was vol. dismissed and he was able to recover more than 10 times the amount i was last offered to resolve my case.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Mentor, Ohio?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
