Valerie believes in the truth and fights for you, I had a case that was dismissed by Valerie, and I was not giving in as I was COMPLETELY innocent and Valerie fought for me and had my case dismissed! I love her! This woman is a GO GETTER and if you are right I believe she will win for you and fight with all her heart! Thank You Valerie for JUSTICE!

I hired her because she is representing another client with the same complaint. I paid her the retainer, provide ALL court files, list of complaints, questions to accompany the complaint, contact information of each player involved in complaint, a detailed log of events pertaining to instances for complaints, and case law to support the claims. Within 2 months, we've met once, briefly. She has cancelled our meetings 4 times, usually within an hour of meeting. She rescheduled, but cancels just reschedule, but then cancels... Revolving over and over but still, no meeting. I'm losing faith in her professional abilities and worthiness to her client, ME! She is scattered, unorganized, and eager. There is no output from her. I try to remain calm and patient as I'm sure she is busy, but if the case load is too big, then say that and refund my upfront retainer! She is young, age and time in service does matter in law, everything is time sensitive. My opinion, she is not prepared to take cases that require attention to detail. She focuses on chasing the goose with paperwork instead of preparing the complaint. I find myself doing more work as a legal assistant, than as a client. The cycle never ends. I'm ready to fire her and move on to a more focused lawyer for my legal situation.

Details02/09/2019 She briefly represented me after my near-death accident with my youngest daughter and put minimal to no effort into helping, them abandoned me at the last second. She’s VERY unprofessional. She’s engaged to my daughter’s father’s new bully attorney (that has threatened my attorney) and is treating my attorney (her old colleague/friend) very unprofessionally because of conflicts of interest that have arisen. Her demeanor and conduct is not mature, ethical, professional, or trustworthy.

Her communication was very poor, she said she believed in me but I had to bug her daily to get her to do anything! In one breath she said money wasn't an issue, but the next moment she criticized me for payment! She encouraged me to settle on a case that is hurting me in a case very much! I haven't seen my daughters in months and it's looking like 3 or months before I see them again. She dropped me because I sent her hundreds of messages and emails begging for updates or her to do something. In 8 months she filed ONE motion! She's a liar and a false hope. Go to someone else!

I hired Maureen Dodd in Ohio to represent a workers comp. For more than 6 months she failed to get me any weekly benefits, get approvals for Dr appointments, go to court to get approvals for PT, MRI Dr requested or mileage. She never called me or told me why after my complaints that nothing was being done. Maureen father Robert Dodd threatened to not work or even show up to a hearing after I refused to sign to have an IME done for the employer as they so low ball you and lie about your condition that you are refused anything. IME are done by the defense, not the plaintiff. When I refused to go to a IME paid by the defense, not Maureen Dodd, but her dad wrote me a letter stating they were dropping me as a client. They do not protect an injury party but act like defense lawyers. Maureen failed to add my left hip to the claim as my records show, a severe aggrevation of my right knee injury from a fall at work on another comp claim and a posterior root tear on left knee. All she filed was a left shoulder injury and when I went to treat she refused to discuss other injuries except the shoulder and then refused to get me any medical care. Hearing she wrote to have at the BWC she now has no intention of being involved. This firm is not reputably and does not stand by anything in their advertisments. Worst comp attorney because injured patients need good lawyers, not a firm that does nothing and walks out if a claim and does not listen to a client. Thought this firm might be different. Maureen never asked about medical mileage or my right for weekly benefits. Go somewhere else as this firm does damage to a client and then walks out. As a client I have every right to say no to my attorney and not be threatened that if I do not go to an IME my own attorney wants, not the defense lawyer they will drop your case. Poor quality representation. Why would Maureen who I hired, not her father get him to do her dirty work to fire me as a client. He is head of their firm. This is sad that a female attorney cannot stand on her own two feet and talk to her client, and has her Dad do her dirty work. Will be filing other charges against this firm Stay away

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of New Lexington, Ohio?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
