In March of 2000, Guardianship for my daughter was granted. Atty. VanTine was my attorney. It became a very complicated legal process and it was one of the most stressful times in my life. It is now 20 years later and thinking I need some legal advice and help. So hoping her office is same address I decided to Google her name, and here l see the review page. After reading the reviews that were so negative, I have to add my experience. Linda is the most conscientious, reliable and dedicated attorney you will ever find. I hope anyone in need of an attorney will not be swayed by some of the derogatory comments. Linda will work with you, for you and will always go the extra mile to help you. Besides being highly regarded in the community, she is a truly a nice person.

I called upon Ms. Van Tine when my brother passed away as she had handled his will and guardianship for my disabled nephew. I found her to be knowledgeable, helpful, professional, and very prompt when returning phone calls and gathering knowledge for me. I live out of state so I do not have her as my personal attorney. However, I will retain her in all matters whenever possible.

Unfortunately, I never got to meet with Linda. After calling and speaking with the receptionist, she advised me to bring all my documents for Linda to review. This was to be followed up with an appointment. After 3 weeks of no response, I called & left a message. Expecting a callback...never happened. After an entire month I requested my paperwork back and I am going elsewhere. The receptionist responded that Linda was out of the office for 2 weeks. With all due respect, maybe some sort of communication could have been attempted, if you even knew your pending clients! (this has been a very emotional time to begin with for my elderly parents, losing their son and we were looking for guidance and support)

In my opinion, Linda Van Tine is the best attorney in Erie County regarding guardianships. I work in this area of law out-of-state and personally understand how difficult and complicated guardianships can be. Linda is currently assisting with my mother's guardianship and I am so grateful for all that she's done for us. Reviews that comment on Linda's fees, unresponsiveness, etc. are not at all what we have experienced working with her. Linda, and her staff, are very competent and responsive, and those who are represented by Linda are very lucky to have an attorney with her skill and knowledge in their corner. Thank you Linda!

After being diagnosed with a work related injury, I was referred to Calhoun, Kademenos and Childress for Workers Comp representation. Victors expertise in Workers Comp law and his compassion for the injured worker gave me piece of mind knowing he fought for my rights as an injured worker.

I became a client of this firm and Attorney Kademenos back in 2008. I had already undergone one shoulder surgery (which my employer fought) and was facing the need for another. Of course, my employer fought against paying for the 2nd surgery but Attorney Kademenos, through the hearing process, got it approved for me and thereafter was able to get me a permanent partial disability award as well. Attorney Kademenos is extremely pleasant, down to earth, and knows his stuff! I would highly recommend this attorney for anyone who was injured at work.

I would highly recommend Victor Kademenos as a lawyer. He has been working with me for over the past 4 years on a very complicated worker's compensation case. I have been impressed at how knowledgeable he has been, not only with the worker"s compensation system, but also with the complicated, incurable disease that I acquired as a result from my injury. As a healthcare professional myself, I never thought that I would have to rely on a lawyer to fight for my rights against a medical center that is supposed to take care of their own. He has gone above and beyond to make sure that I have been taken care of. He has consistently put my health and welfare above the worker's compensation system and my ex-employers standards. Without him I wouldn't have been able to win one of the cases I have had pending. I am 100% confident in Victor Kademenos and would recommend him to anyone.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Sandusky, Ohio?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
