I was lost, but now I am found. After working over 25 years in the financial services industry I thought I had my finances in line. I was correct. However, the potential risk of not having a trust was an area that I overlooked. I attended the education seminar hosted by Williams, Allen, Casey LPA and learned enough to realize that I needed a plan. I was very impressed that the firm had a true process to estate planning and that it wasn’t just another service they offered. We set an appointment and we were introduced to Ray. Ray was very informative, and we met several times. Never once did my wife and I feel like we did not know what was being discussed. This is a very complicated matter, but Ray's approach makes Estate Planning easy to comprehend. It doesn’t hurt that Ray is just a nice guy and easy to talk to. I was more than impressed with both the firm and Ray with how they handled our situation and put us in a great position to lower the overall risk of our estate. After what I learned and what we accomplished there is no way I could have done this on my own. Thank you Raymond and everyone at Williams, Allen Casey.

Wow. Awesome. Caring. Compassionate. Responsive. Innovative. Proactive. Involved. These are words that do not begin to describe my experience with the organization and with all I have interacted. Upon the recommendation of trusted financial and legal professionals, my wife embarked on the journey to create a trust encompassing complicated personal and business components, which has turned out to be one of her best moves. Faced with a multitude of complexities, the firm has been able to put my daughter, our business interests, and myself in a comfortable, protected, and secure position upon her passing. Thanks to their efforts, we are all able to proceed and enjoy the fruits of my wife’s innovative and creative spirit.

I've been a client for a few years now and the whole team at William Allen Casey are simply the best in the business when it comes to estate planning -- not only Scott, Jen, and Ray, but all of their support staff is outstanding. They thoroughly educate their clients and help them make informed decisions throughout the initial estate creation and then continue to go above and beyond through additional educational programs throughout the years that follow. Their process is very refined and they make their customers feel very comfortable even while working through some difficult topics -- just very easy to work with. I couldn't be happier with their services! Specifically for Ray, his practical knowledge comes through very well in conversation and he uses his dry but witty sense of humor very appropriately to add levity to discussions when necessary.

Jenn is an absolute wonder. She and her staff helped me through my mother's estate and setting up my own families trust. It's hard to find someone to trust with your assets, but after extensive research and reading reviews (plus - gut instinct) - it was a homerun. Jen returns calls and messages that same day or in some cases within minutes. Don't know how many people actually know about the work that goes into estate planning and setting up a family trust - It's a lot... 'trust' me. Jen went over every aspect of what the whole process encompasses. Sometimes it gets confusing, but she understands that it's a lot to take in and doesn't have any problem going over things with you again. Thank You Jenn for your time and patience ;)

We conferred with Jen about drawing up our wills. We had definite ideas about how we wanted our affairs handled, but we didn't think we needed a Trust. Just a simple will. Jen was very patient and explained that what we wanted to do was exactly what a Trust was designed to do. Still, we just wanted a simple will. Jen did not press us and continued to try and make our wishes work with just a simple will. As we worked together, we began to see that she was right and eventually established a Living Trust. We have so much peace of mind now knowing that when the time comes, our affairs will be handled according to our wishes. I really appreciate Jen's patience and ability to explain things.

My wife and I were introduced to Scott Williams in 1995 by one of our insurance agents, and from the outset realized not only how knowledgeable he was, but how thorough and caring. During the past 25 years, and continuing with the addition of Jen Allen and Ray Casey as partners, the pattern has remained the same. Annual reviews, follow-up to ensure the trusts are fully funded, educational programs for clients, trustees, and heirs have kept things current and reassuring to all. When my wife passed away in 2005, the settlement process was caring, and also quick and efficient. I heartily recommend this team, which includes a tremendous support staff.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Seven Hills, Ohio?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
