I hired Michael Kirby to replace a very young attorney I initially chose to handle my divorce after 40 years of marriage. The young guy worked hard for a year but got stalled. Michael is my age and had been a magistrate for over 25 years. I thought he would be the perfect solution. I delivered Michael my case file from the previous 14 months and he assured me he would get up to speed for me. A week later Michael Kirby advised me that I needed to settle my divorce by paying my wife 1.2 million dollars which is a figure that my wife's attorney had requested at the beginning of the divorce. He advised I borrow the money to do so. I told him that he obviously had not read my file. He said he had. I informed him we had already been given a counter-offer and had refused the revised offer from my wife's attorney for $715,000.00 some weeks earlier. Why would I now offer 1.2 million dollars which I do not have? He was unable to respond. Then the following week despite my explicitly asking him to make a motion to the court to enforce its order to have my wife pay for an appraisal of property he did not do so. Instead he told me he and her attorney felt it was a waist of money. I fired him. And I do not recommend him as a divorce attorney.
