I had the occasion to use this firm for an injury related matter. Brad Wicker was the attorney who handled this. His assistant was (Jessica). Both were always professional at all times. Things were explained in simple terms that anyone could follow along and understand. I was always kept in the loop and phone calls were returned in timely manner. All communications (written & by phone) were great. I would highly recommend this firm (Mr. Wicker & Jessica) be considered should you need to seek legal assistance.

Hands down BEST lawyer and office in Kay County. Brad and Jessica are a power duo and if you want someone that has the necessary skills to win your case and ensure you are treated fairly and with respect and don’t get bullied by the system. They are fair and don’t play the Buddy system that a lot encounter in Kay county and the court system in general. They never make you feel silly for asking a question or wanting clarification on something you may not understand. They never get upset or arrogant and expect you to just trust them and “leave it to the experts” like some offices. Trust me they are phenomenal and definitely got above average skills but they also are extremely humble, honest people and have integrity. They will never make you feel rushed and always want to make sure you are a 100% confident in understanding everything (sometimes legal jumbo is hard to understand so they make sure you are never blindsided or anything misconstrued) Most lawyers are competitive by nature but to find a lawyer with a true gift and can execute that gift effortlessly (or at least make it seem effortless) and still be humble and have actual integrity who cares for the people and cases he argues is not only a true gem and hard to find but ultimately a true blessing! Then to have his right hand aid set the bar so high in her skills and abilities who is so sweet and honest and the most helpful is what make them a power duo! Jessica is so knowledgeable that I usually can’t wait to talk with her to just ask her the silly minute things that I’m pondering or want to make sure I’m fully understanding because she never makes me feel silly no matter how big or small the question! Honestly, I’ve felt like l like my back is against the wall but felt 100 at ease once I hired them! I’m naturally anxious and I love to research everything but I know if I read something and start to feel anxious or anything she’s always able to make sure she explains everything and put my concerns to rest but what I love is she won’t sugar coat! She will tell you if you have a reason to be anxious but also let you know they will do everything they can to do whatever’s necessary per the law to ensure everything is done according to how it’s supposed to and fairly! Love love love these two! If you don’t know who to trust to get your litigations handled correctly, effectively, and with the upmost integrity they are the two you want I promise. I can’t speak for the other attorneys in that office because I don’t have experience with them but hands down these two I’d pick 100000 times over! And if they can’t help you DEFINITELY go with who they recommend! They won’t steer you wrong! Truly blessed to have got to have them handle a few things for me. Also I’d just like to add if you think their dropping the ball on something for you you really should set back and think about everything they put into their jobs to make it look as effortlessly as they do! I promise in the end you will see it was not in vain! They are working so hard for you even if it’s hard for you to see in the present! They put their clients interest as priority and work so hard!! Be patient and pray for them! They are human too but they go above and beyond because they actually care and trust me their job is no where close to easy!!

I have and do highly recommended James Stout for many reasons. I have recommended him to several friends, family and strangers who were in need of any sort of legal representation because he has never let us down thus far. He is a class act. For my family, James has been our hero and our go to guy. Literally this man has been here for us through a variety of difficult situations. Family law, criminal defense, juvenile court, child support, and has even consulted with us on adoption procedures, power of attorney guidance for my terminally ill mother etc etc.. He is committed and honest. He doesn't tell us what we want to hear.... he tells us his honest opinion. He is fair and reasonable on a financial aspect, and always tries to get us the most for our money. He's caring on a personal level yet productive and professional when it's crunch time. One phone call to him, with a moment's notice and he has still shown up to aid me in difficult situations and that kind of attorney is unheard of these days. He is prompt and for the most part has actually answered his phone when we called him and if he didn't answer then he returned the call within 24 hours. He's always been on time for court dates. He also always keeps us updated and explains to us everything and prepares us for the process and/or what to expect next. Great guy. I hate needing a attorney ever, but if we do need one he'll be the guy.

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the expected timeline for my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What challenges do you foresee in my case?
Understanding potential obstacles helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to resolve my legal issue?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Tulsa, Oklahoma?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
