Dennis is very honest and detail oriented. He steers you in the right direction regardless of whether that will make him less money. I highly recommend him.

Absolutely supported me from start to finish. from the first call to settling up invoices, I was never confused or left without the information I needed. Divorce and the legal system are scary as hell to those of us with no clue. Having his wealth of information and experience gave me confidence that there was going to be an ending to this rough chapter in my life. Give him a call and he will get back to you if he doesn't answer immediately. I'm glad I did.

Top review highlights

Pros
1
Excellent client support and professionalism
“Alex, in particular, is knowledgeable, personable, responsive, and professional. I was impressed by how quickly he responded to my inquiries and how I could communicate with him directly, avoiding the usual need to go through paralegals or assistants.”
2
Demonstrated deep legal knowledge and provided clear guidance
“He demonstrated a deep knowledge of divorce law and explained my choices. He got me a fair settlement that I could afford.”
3
Compassionate and understanding throughout the legal process
“My experience with this law firm has been amazing and very helpful. They were able to help me after I endured a really painful accident that had set me back for awhile. Working with this firm was very easy going and they ensured to keep me updated along the whole process.”
4
Successful in achieving favorable outcomes for clients
“Alex included every important fact and applied the law to it. I not only MAINTAINED FULL CUSTODY but I also gained an extra weekend a month to be with my baby.”
5
Reasonable and transparent pricing
“His rates were very reasonable, and he made sure everything went smoothly.”
Cons
1
Poor communication and lack of responsiveness
“Communication with him is limited at best, and he hides behind emails. You'd do a lot better finding someone who will actually learn about your case.”
2
Potential bias and failure to advocate for client's best interests
“It is very clear that he had been biased by the mother and the mother grandparent. Not in anyway doing what is in the best interest of child involved.”
3
Overcharging and unnecessary billing
“He exaggerates on the bill statement and charges unreasonably.”
4
Lack of empathy and disregard for client's needs
“He never did any of the paperwork that he said he was going to do; my mother ended up doing most of it herself. He tried to convince my mother to give up most of the very reasonable things she was asking for from the divorce judge.”
5
Failure to provide quality legal representation
“He asked and charged me to put together evidence and then refused to follow up. He wouldn't call any of the people on my list and said it simply wouldn't matter.”

This attorney is stellar in my book, having practiced law for nearly (or over) 40 years and has become known for securing outstanding outcomes for his clients. His clients are by referral only, not through advertizing. He offers expertise, integrity, and a bit of advice to improve your situation...if you had a part in your dilemma. He is exceptional in many ways and to hire him to represent you is an experience many people walk away from enriched and often as friends. He is known in the legal community, respected by opponents, and a bulldog to those being dishonest and unethical. He has represented my family at various times with business issues, has a strong approach that conveys confidence and he gets results. Wonderful to work with as a genuine, honest, and rational attorney. And his daughter has become an attorney also!

Working with Mario Musil was a great a pleasure. The moment from our first conversation. More concerned was my wife being the foreigner. Mario assisted and reassured us through the entire process. His assistance exceeded our expectations, through correspondence through phone calls, emails, and in another country. It did not matter he made time. His professionalism, detailed work and advisement, gave our home peace of mind when told that we did not need to go for an interview. We could not be greatful for the team that he has placed in his firm. We definitely recommend Mario Musil and his legal team to anyone needing counsel in immigration law. Thank You Mario.

Gail Vore has been an incredibly knowledge and helpful attorney during a very difficult legal process. My StepMother is divorcing my father, who has Alzheimers and is not able to make his own decisions. Gail assisted me in dealing with the other attorney, and with the court in getting named Guardian Ad Litem for my Dad. This allowed me to be his representative during the divorce. Gail assisted me in understanding the processes, why things need to be handled a certain way, what questions should be asked and the best way to respond. She made the process less overwhelming for me, as I had no clue as to what I needed to do! (None!) Rarely do you find an attorney you can have complete confidence in, and the knowledge they're in your corner. From our first conversation over the phone, Gail put me at ease, listened completely, came up with a beginning game plan and made an appointment to meet in person. Her communications are very professional, to the point, and easy to understand. She does as she says she will do, calling at 10:59 for an 11 a.m. phone appointment. At her offices in Beaverton, she's on time and ready to get down to business. Yet, she also has the ability to listen completely and be supportive. As far as I'm concerned, I'm going to continue doing business with Gail Vore for any business I have in Oregon. She's just that great! I highly recommend her as being worth EVERY penny she charges. I feel like she gave incredible value for every hour charged.

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the expected timeline for my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What challenges do you foresee in my case?
Understanding potential obstacles helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to resolve my legal issue?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Beaverton, Oregon?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
