Excellent Lawyer! Laurel Hook will definitely take care of you during a very difficult time in your life along with your family dynamics changing. - She along with her team are absolutely amazing! She definitely knows the intricacies of the divorce laws and is there to represent you to the fullest. She talked me off of ledges on many occasions, I came into her office terrified of filing for divorce but knew I had to and she walked me thru a very complicated process paying attention to so many details, I had no clue about. She explained her strategies to me in ways I completely understood and felt comfortable with. I finalized my divorce with confidence due to her support and knowledge. Her team is there to come beside you which I was very thankful for. If you want the best lawyer, go with Laurel Hook esp if you divorce is complicated with a business or other stuff. She truly cared about me and my kids thru this entire process! I highly recommend Laurel Hook!

*Empathetic, Effective, and Truly Exceptional - Thank You, Jamie!** From the moment I stepped into Jamie's office, I knew I had found not just a lawyer, but a fierce advocate who would stand by my side during one of the most challenging times of my life. Facing a divorce as a significant underdog against a former top CEO, I was overwhelmed and financially vulnerable. Jamie Svisco took on my case with a level of compassion and dedication that was nothing short of life-changing. Throughout the grueling year and several months of proceedings, Jamie fought relentlessly for my best interests, guided by her deep understanding of Oregon State law and a genuine concern for my well-being. Despite the daunting circumstances and the complexities of my case, Jamie’s strategy and perseverance led to a favorable outcome that I couldn't have imagined at the start. Being left in shock and penniless after a betrayal is a nightmare no one should face alone. Jamie made sure I was not just represented, but cared for. Her professionalism and empathy have restored my faith in justice and the belief that there are people who do what is right above all else. Thank you, Jamie, for being my champion in the courtroom and my unwavering support system throughout this process. Your expertise and kindness have helped me close a painful chapter and look forward to new beginnings. I am immensely grateful and would recommend Jamie to anyone facing similar challenges.

Can't imagine using anyone else....and can't thank him enough. I worked through a very difficult 2-year divorce, which resulted in trial. The managed, responsible, respectable, strategic and caring approach Joel, his team and broader firm demonstrated throughout the process, was absolutely incredible. I have never felt so confident or safe in what was a very difficult situation. He was fair, honest and upstanding during every step, and held me to these same standards. Joel's approach was methodical, steady and determined, and the outcome reflected that. I can't thank him enough. I have extremely high regard for Joel as a professional, as well as being a great person and pillar in the community. Much thanks to Joel, his partners and great team for helping me move forward in the best possible way. Wish there was a ten-star option...he is that good.

Just called to see about scheduling a consultation for a divorce and custody case for someone else. Was told I would be speaking with an attorney in Bend. When I asked what the consultation fee was they told me $900!!! Are you serious?!? That much money and you don't even know if they will take you on as a client let alone whether you want to hire them for your case?! Absolutely outrageous!! I was sad because my attorney referred me to them and she is amazing but doesn't travel out of my county. Maybe you guys should advertise on your sites that you are a high dollar firm so people don't waste their time attempting to connect.

Mr. Campos provided sound legal assistance and advice to help our family through the crisis listed above. His strategy and approach in the court room won the case for us and the judge complimented him at the conclusion noting that he was impressed by his performance. I found Mr. Campos to be extremely knowlegeable in the field of family law which gave my family great comfort during this stressful time. He was dedicated and professional to the point of working with us over weekends to resolve issues. In short I would highly recommend Mr. Campos as a family lawyer.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Bend, Oregon?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
