I have been enduring a very ugly divorce, and several years ago I was entrapped into a situation that caused me to incur a domestic violence case; it took years of work- but with Casey’s guidance, and his paralegal Gretchen’s help; they were able to expunge my records in a short time. Even with objections from my ex wife, Casey and Gretchen gave me the validation and support needed in my situation to go through the court process and come out with a clear slate. They have ensured all the work I’ve put in to better my life wasn’t fruitless, and I can now finally pass background checks for housing, better jobs, etc. Casey and his team were the most genuine and honest people I’ve met in a legal setting, and I could not be more lucky to have had them represent and guide me. They deserve so much more recognition and support, will definitely be reaching out to them again in the future!

After trying to flee from someone threatening to kill me and my loved ones in my truck at what was supposed to be a family birthday party, I was wrongfully arrested for a DUII. I spoke with several firms and then I found Casey Baxter with Baxter Law online and saw the reviews so I decided to give them a call for a consultation. Immediately I could tell his attitude towards my case was what I was looking for. All of the other firms I talked to suggested diversion because it was “less risky”. I didn’t want that on my record if I was able to defend it. Well when I talked to Casey he didn’t constantly tell me how great he was like the other firms. He gave me his (very qualified)credentials and actually gave me the process of how he would go about this case and I could tell he wasn’t afraid to defend my case. Choosing him to be my lawyer was the best decision I could’ve made. He spoke with the DA on my case and was able to get the whole thing dismissed before my court date. This firm knows the law and isn’t afraid to fight for you. If you go with them you can feel taken care of. I will 100% recommend Casey and Baxter Law.

100 percent. That's how much every person in the building gave. They made me feel like I was the only client. From the receptionist, to Casey himself, I felt that they truly cared and could tell that I was not just a client but that I actually mattered. The saying goes that you get for what you pay for, and not only did I get the best legal representation, I got so much more; people who actually care. Not only would I recommend them to anyone i cared about, if I ever need future assistance in a matter I know I can count on Casey and the entire Baxter law team to help.

Daniel Stewart review, September 18th, 2024... I hired Shelby at the recommendation of a local attorney friend and with the encouragement of my adult children. My experience with Shelby has been nothing short of outstanding. I was presented 3 alternatives to 'navigate' the complaint..I took the firm's advice and met with a very experienced counselor in Salem. This was done to ascertain and overview of parts of my character that were called into question. The results were as expected, no concerns. In fact, Shelby told me that the report was the "best" she had seen in her years of working with this particular counselor. From there, Shelby guided me through the succeeding process. She met with the District Attorney to mitigate the 'charge'. That was successful, the hearing was held in mid September. The outcome was precisely what she told me it would be. I found Shelby to be empathetic, very knowledgeable in the process and the law. She was encouraging and supportive, and most helpful to me emotionally. She was always available, spent appropriate time answering questions and aggressively pursued a reduction in the 'charge'. With her guidance, I expect the entire matter will be expunged at the earliest possible date. I cannot recommend Shelby Thomas highly enough. I am completely satisfied with the legal counsel she provided. I always felt she was going the extra steps it took to really help me legally and, of course, emotionally. Thank you, Shelby. Respectfully, Daniel Stewart Bend, Oregon

We had no idea what to expect when our 17 year-old was arrested for trespassing. One phone call with Shelby helped us understand the process and gave us peace of mind. We hired Shelby to help us navigate the juvenile judicial system, but she also came alongside us and our child. Not only did she help us legally, but she helped us communicate with our child in a way that we would not have been able to do on our own. We are impressed with how well Shelby worked and communicated with our teen!

I retained Shelby for a very old case. This case was almost 25 years old! I had a felony warrant for a theft in the 1st degree . I am currently finishing up my last year of nursing school and also live out of state and was unable to appear in Oregon. Shelby was able to get this approved for me to appear remotely. She got a plea deal that dropped the charge down to a violation!!! I have had this charge hanging over my head ALL of these years! It's gone! I will expunge the violation in one year. I am beyond grateful for her help and would HIGHLY recommend Shelby if you are looking for a fantastic criminal defense lawyer!!! Thank you so much, Shelby!

Wayne represented me in a case involving me tripping and falling on a raised panel on a sidewalk and breaking my jaw in 3 places. Wayne was most professional dealing with the insurance companies and the people involved in this case. He got me a satisfied settlement. You couldn't ask for a nicer guy or a more professional attorney. Wayne knows his stuff. I would recommend his services to anyone who needs a good attorney. He even reduced his own wages so I could walk away with more money. What Attorney does that? Thank You so much Wayne.

Wayne and his staff helped me come to a settlement agreement with an Insurance company that I had been working with on my own. Although the settlement was less then I felt was appropriate it was more then I had been able to negotiate on my own. In addition, Waynes fees were very fair and reasonable. I would not hesitate to use Wayne again or refer him to any of my friends or family.

Wayne Hawn was a fantastic attorney. I first met with Wayne in Portland, OR. He traveled up here from Bend, OR to meet me and discuss what happened. He was very caring and confident in my case, thus I hired him a few days later and began the process. As this was my first time being involved with a lawyer, my understanding of the process was minimal. Wayne knew how to properly convey and illustrate each step along the way. He was a true teammate throughout the entire year of our case. He laid out what he believed was to occur and 95% of the time, it happened. I would recommend Wayne for any and all cases. If you're searching for a lawyer, give him a call and meet up with him. I am sure at that point you'll realize how experienced he is. Thanks again Wayne, Your friend

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Bend, Oregon?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
