I hired this attorney to assist me with a personal legal issue. He soon became overly personal and very unprofessional. He had no regard whatsoever for my legal situation and instead initiated personal calls after hours to my home. He was selfish and acted extremely out of context. Our legal situation was ultimately unresolved costing us thousands of dollars and time. This attorney needs to revisit his ethics and how his actions effect others. We do not recommend him and would not hire him!

I hired this attorney to handle some contracts drafting for my business. He was very responsive and met with me once the work was completed to ensure that I was happy with the work performed.

This "attorney" took payment for a very simple case. On two occasions, he failed to file paperwork on my behalf which resulted in a summary judgment against me. He is a very poor attorney. Prior to his disciplinary hearing that I filed, he called and left me a message that he would like to give me a refund (over 2 years later!). HOWEVER...I have called and left several messages trying to get the refund he offered. Not a single call was returned.

It was an absolute pleasure to work with Christian! My case drug on for nearly two years and I wanted to give in multiple times. Christian encouraged me to not give up and gave sound advice on how to keep proceeding. He was very clear with how my case was proceeding and forwarded all emails/correspondence from the opposing counsel to keep me well informed of what was going on. I most definitely would not have been able to do what he did on my own and I am forever grateful for his very professional help through a very trying time of life.

Words fall short in expressing my gratitude for Christian. With great dignity and care, Christian worked to help me navigate a long and emotional parenting time matter. Throughout all the work on my case, Christian remained transparent, honest, and always gave attention to detail. I never wanted to have to take the road through the courts, unfortunately circumstances called for legal support and I am very grateful I chose Christian to represent me. I highly recommend Christian's services.

We've used "Bill" Gibson a few times and have recommended him to family and friends. He has always been very down to earth in explaining and making sure we understand all aspects of a case. Unlike some attorney's he watches out for the client. We've know him for years through his attorney work and have come to consider him an acquaintance/friend.

Other than a very quick and impersonal Arbitration, he was knowledgable with my case because he took the time to read it thoughally before we arrived. He knew the facts and granted me the full award I was seeking. I appreciated his fairness and his demeanor with the Plaintiff who did not deserve any sympathy. His Assistant Joy was also professinal and helpful.

Hiring Conrad was clearly the right choice. He was prompt, professional, and resolved my case in my favor quickly and efficiently. Not only that, but he put up with my many after hours phone calls and emails, going out of his way to answer all of my (admittedly excessive) questions.

Conrad is proactive in understanding the case, and constructing and communicating a straightforward game plan. His knowledge of the law, attention to detail, provision of a timeline with periodic updates, including next steps and what to expect, put me at ease throughout the process. Conrad collaborated with other colleagues for additional expertise whenever the case veered a direction beyond the scope of his daily practice. When unforeseen obstacles surfaced, Conrad met them head on with calm, intelligent redirect to the law and desired resolution. His writing and articulation are clever and strong; he is distinctly professional, but by no means a pushover. He is laser focused on the best outcome for his client. You can’t find a better lawyer.

Conrad won an extremely complicated real estate case for us at jury trial out of town, which was a terrifying experience; then successfully navigated the process for us when they appealed. Calm, focused, professional and respected by the judges. Highly recommend Zubel PC without hesitation. Areas of the law he has helped us tremendously with: real estate, rescission, land sale contracts, insurance policy review & claims, DEQ, dealing with a dishonest commercial lender.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Clackamas, Oregon?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
