I filed a restraining/move-out order against my former partner, who had become increasingly angry, abusive, and I feared violence from him. I wanted to be sure that he would not be allowed back into my home so I hired Greg Oliveros to represent me. My former partner was challenging the order so we went to court. Before the hearing Greg went to talk with him. He told him that he had about a 1% chance of winning and he negotiated a settlement of the case. It has been an incredible relief to have it over with! Greg is very kind, thorough and has a heart. I recommend him unconditionally! His staff is absolutely wonderful, too. :)

Kathleen is an extremely thorough and concise in her legal advice to Boards. I worked with her as a Board member and now as a Board President and I am very impressed with her prompt response times regularly and she is always prepared. Kathleen is an excellent communicator as I have witnessed first hand her ability to effectively communicate with many different personalities and communication styles when talking to Board of Directors and Community members. She is easy to work with, pleasant and knowledgeable; I highly recommend Kathleen Profitt for your Community's legal needs.

Profitt law is one of the best HOA Law firms in the northwest. I have worked with other firms and finally found a home with Profitt law. Kathleen and Vicky are amazing they make you feel like you are their only client when you stop by or when you call. Working with this firm isn’t like any other firm, some firms that are large you feel like they provide a service and send you a bill. This firm makes you feel like they are here for you and only you; they make you feel like you are important and they are your HOA partner. After working with Profitt Law for almost a year now I can honestly say I am a customer for life! If you and your board want a law firm that is there for you, always has your HOA in the best interest and you want someone you can trust then choose Profitt Law you won’t be sorry!

I found this attorney to be extremely knowledgeable in her specific area of expertise, i.e. condo law, in addition to being extremely knowledgeable in all aspects of the general practice of law. She was also very responsive as I was always able to reach her when needed to discuss various aspects of the case. and she kept me totally informed at all times. She listened to what I had to say about the case and we had a very co-operative and mutual exchange of ideas as, unlike many other attorneys with whom i have worked with, she realized that the client knows more about his or her case than anyone else; and ,therefore is someone whom the attorney should listen to. I was extraordinarily impressed with her knowledge of all of the facts of the case and the law and her willingness to "dig" for all of the pertinent facts and law. One aspect of her handling of the case that most impressed me was her willingness to go the extra mile and learn about other matters that were going to have an impact on the case. She did whatever it took to make certain that we would prevail. She was unquestionably willing to stand up for my rights in the most difficult of circumstances when many another lawyer would have backed off. But she also knew when to compromise and work with the opposition at the right time to amicable settle the case. In other words, her judgment skills were impeccable--- something that is not taught in law school and that is lacked by many an attorney. Finally, although not really of any consequence when compared with making certain one wins and everything else that is involved with litigation, she was very reasonable with her legal fees. I was extraordinarily impressed with this attorney on all levels and would very highly recommend her to anyone.

Hiring Conrad was clearly the right choice. He was prompt, professional, and resolved my case in my favor quickly and efficiently. Not only that, but he put up with my many after hours phone calls and emails, going out of his way to answer all of my (admittedly excessive) questions.

Conrad is proactive in understanding the case, and constructing and communicating a straightforward game plan. His knowledge of the law, attention to detail, provision of a timeline with periodic updates, including next steps and what to expect, put me at ease throughout the process. Conrad collaborated with other colleagues for additional expertise whenever the case veered a direction beyond the scope of his daily practice. When unforeseen obstacles surfaced, Conrad met them head on with calm, intelligent redirect to the law and desired resolution. His writing and articulation are clever and strong; he is distinctly professional, but by no means a pushover. He is laser focused on the best outcome for his client. You can’t find a better lawyer.

Conrad won an extremely complicated real estate case for us at jury trial out of town, which was a terrifying experience; then successfully navigated the process for us when they appealed. Calm, focused, professional and respected by the judges. Highly recommend Zubel PC without hesitation. Areas of the law he has helped us tremendously with: real estate, rescission, land sale contracts, insurance policy review & claims, DEQ, dealing with a dishonest commercial lender.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Clackamas, Oregon?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
