Pros
1
Aggressive and effective legal representation, with the ability to get favorable outcomes even in difficult cases
“Scott wanted to go to trial, but did advise me that there was a small chance as always of course of a conviction. With the insane Orwellian measure 11 system in place of mandatory minimums vs sentencing based on mitigating circumstances, I of course took the deal vs rolling the dice. I walked out of jail with time served, based on Scott Carters "lawyering".”
2
Knowledgeable of the law and court system, providing valuable legal advice and guidance
“He told me in the beginning that if i retained him, he would get me everything i "needed" but not necessarily everything i "wanted". Well, he did just that!”
3
Efficient and timely in handling cases, able to complete matters in a short time frame
“Scott Carter was amazing, got right on my case and had it completed in a very short time. Kept me informed every step of the way.”
Cons
1
Can come across as blunt, direct, and lacking empathy in his communication style
“Scott won't give you a hug and hold your hand and tell you it will al be ok, he is tough.”
2
Some clients felt they were treated in a condescending or dismissive manner during consultations
“All I wanted from my consultation was advice to see what my options were. I knew my outcome wouldn't be in my favor. What I didn't know is that I would be treated like garbage. This guy has a serious attitude problem and a serious sense of entitlement that is disgusting.”

Mr. Chase's legal expertise and connections in Klamath Falls are apparent upon the initial consultation. As an attorney myself (in a different state and practice area), I felt confident that he would be able to offer me sound legal advice in an efficient manner. Unfortunately, Mr. Chase was conflicted out of my matter, and I was unable to retain him (he helpfully offered referrals). When searching for a family law attorney, I recommend that you contact Mr. Chase for a consultation.

Cole used to be the Attorney General in his area and now it is in shambles since he has left. He is very knowledgeable in his area, and great to work with. He was unfortunately unable to help me gain any ground in my case (due to my circumstances, nothing to do with his efforts), so he graciously offered to refund my non-refundable retainer. Who does that?!? I would recommend him to anyone!

Mr. Chase represented me in a matter in which I prevailed, because he has an extremely strong ability to show his professional expertise in legal representation with civil and criminal matters which may arise. He has the expertise in changing the outcome of a proceeding, where it would otherwise be difficult for a client to prevail without the effective assistance counsel, but in this case, Mr. Chase is MORE THAN EFFECTIVE. Additionally, his willingness to communicate with his me, and provide the kind of information that was necessary and proper, is of top notch standard. I most appreciate the fact that Mr. Chase is a former prosecuting attorney, so he has (among other things) that absolute knowledge and understanding in getting to the truth of a matter where a particular party might not be so keen on telling the truth. In the future, if necessary, I will have no reservations or second thoughts about contacting Mr. Chase again for any important legal matters which may arise.

Marcus is still assisting me with this case, but let me tell you he is amazing! He is helping me with a custody battle that I feel very confident in because of him. He is not the typical attorney that is out to make money off of you or the type that tells you what you want to hear! He is honest and will tell you want you need to hear so you can make the proper decisions for your case. I would and will recommend Marcus to anyone that is looking for an attorney to help them with a custody case!! Thank you for your help thus far Mr. Henderson!!

I would highly recommend Evelyn Oldenkamp to anyone that may be in need of the best lawyer ever. Her and her team are very professional but at the same time down to earth. They listen to you and go step by step of the situation, they are good in communicating any updates, the response time is very quick to any calls or emails; they actually care. No other law office in the area wanted to take my case but she did and I am glad she did. Thank you Evelyn

The law office of Eve Oldenkamp has a very friendly atmosphere and people that care about you. Unlike the big city attorneys that want all your life savings to take your case, Mrs. Oldenkamp is fair with her fees, and works very hard to take care of any legal matters one may have. High regard and high recommendations for this small town attorney that has a BIG HEART! Thank you!

This women not only believed me but proved it. I was beyond traumatized by what had happened to me- not only when she came and got me out of jail she already had an appointment set up for me with a PTSD doctor- one of the best in his field and took me straight there. She has ben more than just an attorney to me because she cared enough to make sure I came out of the brutal attack I endured. She always returned calls-even on the weekend. She actually cared about my well being-not just the result of my legal case- this is a rare quality and for this-you can find no other.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Klamath Falls, Oregon?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
